Just cancelled my pre-op surgery appt

Why am I smiling?  Because I am going to have a positive attitude about this -dang it. I am doing well with my knee but because they did a little more than just remove the torn meniscus, I will need more time before I am really physically where I need to be.  I met with one of my profs at SNU and explained my situtation.  She encouraged me to go ahead with surgery even though I might have to miss a class.  She said I will still graduate even if I make a B instead of an A in one class!  That means I don't have to wait until Labor Day to do it.  I looked at the work schedule and I could fit in surgery on July 2nd if they are doing surgeries that week (lots of offices take vacation that week).   I left a message for Julia to cancel my pre-op appt on Wednesday.  I'm getting my stitches out on Wed and have PT so I can't make it anyway.  I asked to be penciled in for surgery on the 2nd of July if that is possible.   Okay, so how do I keep a positive attitude.....no more liquid diet!!!  I will have plenty of time to do the regular aggressive diet with supplements like I started out with.  That sounds like tons of food to me now!  I started back on that today and was so satisfied with lunch.  Also, they told me in PT today that I can do the recumbnent bike for 5-10 minutes now.  Woo-hoo!  That will burn a few calories anyway.  Better than just sitting around. Oh and I weighed this morning finally.  And I am weighing the same as I did the morning of my knee surgery - 320.  So, my little pig out episode must have caused a gain but it is gone now. Sorry for the long post!  If anyone actually reads all this - bless you!   -Amy

Amy - you already know what I think......In my humble opinion, I believe you should be physically and mentally prepared for surgery, this means that I think you are doing exactly what you should be doing in letting the knee heal and giving yourself some time to lose the required weight. Stressing about losing the weight, will not make you lose the weight, if you know what I mean....Also, after WLS surgery, many people go through a bit of an emotional roller coaster, something I consider normal when we have spent many, many years relying on food as comfort. So, yes, I agree with you and giving yourself some time, will find you more prepared for surgery and thereafter - Anna

Well you know you are one of my "mentors' so that means a lot.  I really am a pretty solid person but these past couple of weeks I have been on an emotional roller coaster.  At first I was so upset but then I thought about what you said and decided just to re-frame my view so to speak.  I now have to lose 2 lbs a week for the next 7 weeks.  Very doable.  I will be emotionally and physically ready to be successful!  Bring it on.  And... I get to learn from Denise, Kim, and all the others that can fill me in on the post-op scoop so I will be really prepared.

I think you made a wise decision based on your situation.  I a happy you are at peace with the new tentative date. All the stress you were under was probably fighting your weight loss efforts. Hey, by July 2 I will be an old pro at the sleeve!  Hah!  I will believe that when i don't do this ! Will you be at dinner on Wednesday or support on Thursday? Denise
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

No "extra" activities for me this week. :(  But I will be at the next support group and dinner.  I will need the support to keep myself focused over the next 7 weeks.  Today has been the first good day I have had in a week or so.  I have stayed on plan and have planned out meals for the next few days.  Now I just hope and pray that I can get July 2nd as my date.  It will be a relief when I hear from them that the date will work.

Amy, I understand where you're at.  Initially, they offered me surgery on 4/21.  It turned out I had a meeting that week out of town, but I was secretly glad to have a reason to say no to that date, because I didn't think I could get the weight off by then.  Everything worked out great with the change for me.. I know that it will for you, too. Stick with the diet plan and try to get to the support groups if you can.  It really helped me to be around the people who were fighting the same battle. Remember - God always has a plan - sometimes she just doesn't let us in on it up front. Try to keep up the great positive atitude you have today!  I know this will all work out for you.

Of course I read it!  We are all a little family! I think you made the right decision.  You had too much going on and didn't really have the time to focus like I would want to anyway! Just make sure you keep in touch will all of us here so we know how you are! Kim
