Anyone have a packing list for the hospital? Anyone have a shopping list to have on hand when I get home from the hospital? Sorry I'm a planner. I hate to wait til the last minute.. Thanks for any  advice...

Regina, Hi and welcome to Oklahoma OH. Congratulations on your surgery date. Most people are nervous about having surgery, but if you're not that's wonderful. Harris2 (Shelly) can probably give you the best advice about your 10 day since she just had surgery and goes to Dr. Nelson.  For the hospital a must for me was my blanket and pillow.

Also comfortable clothes to go home in are a must. Alot of people like to bring their laptop.  Most people also take the usual tolietries we women use on a daily basis.

As far as the shopping list goes that depends on what your Dr. allows you to have post-op. Shelly can answer that for you too. Sugar free pop sickles are definately a must. Best of luck to you on your WLS journey. Give us a shout if you need anything, Rita

Bless you!  (LOL...are you sneezing in your avatar?)  I'm excited for you.  I've started my packing list too.  Some people swear by the gas x strips and others say they don't help.  Are you having the sleeve, bypass, or lapband? -Amy

Cool!  You will have surgery one day after me except I will be with Dr. Walton in Edmond.  I forgot to check which surgery you are having but I'm VSG.  We'll have to compare notes! Welcome to the board!  I'm not nervous either - I'm just ready to get it done!  If you will look at some of the previous posts, just a day or two ago, people did put together a list of things to take to the hospital and it was a good one.  If I can find the post, I'll email it to you! Welcome to OH!  Kim

Welcome Regina! I'm excited for you! My #1 recommendation for packing for the hospital is lip balm. When you're post-op and waiting for your Gastrografin swallow the next morning, the lip balm is very helpful .... also put it on extra thick for the blue ice test! It will keep you from getting blue lips! ; ) I really didn't have bad thirst when waiting that  first night for the swallow test ... they had my IV going at a good clip so thirst wasn't a problem and when I did have a dry mouth, you can use a little wet sponge on a stick to wet your mouth. The other things I'd recommend for packing are: your OWLO notebook, slip on house shoes, robe, a loose fitting outfit for going home, clean undies, and your computer if you want to mess with it while in the hospital (they have free wifi). I'm excited for you!!! Your surgery will be on my 1 month surgiversary! ; )
Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

WELCOME TO Okie forum!

I only packed the following a rone slippers my OWLO bible and lip balm hand lotion a few meal replacements and my laptop cell phone and charger, plus comfy clothes for the ride home.

As for the 10 day diet DO not have a last meal right before you start do it a few days before u start and then think healthy.

As for being nervous scared I wasnt and i was cool as a cucumber. I even grabbed Dr Hill's butt.

Dr. Keith has a great bedside manner and will come in and see you after you wake up.

I do not know if you know about the angel program...thats where a post op comes to the hospital and is with you from the check in till after you wake up and will be on call after surgery for you if you have questions or just need to talk. While in surgery  they will sit with the family and answer any questions etc. If you would like to have one let me know and I will hook you up...

being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it

One thing I can tell you for sure to get is a body pillow. I doubled mine up in my recliner behind my back, and I used it when I could finally lie down in bed to sleep. It was a lifesaver. I sat with it doubled up on my lap sometimes so that my cat who loves to flop down on me didn't hurt me. Comfy clothes and slip on shoes to walk in.  I didn't need a lot of stuff because I was only in overnight, but I watched the free movies on demand..well, one of them because the rest of the time I was walking.
