Ok, I have a question about how long we can continue to lose

I've been reading my daily dose of internet news today, and the first article I read was about the Star Jones/Barbara Walters fight over Star's RNY and whose idea it was to lie about it. I don't have a dog in this fight, but I got curious and I googled "Star Jones Glamour article" where I was finally able to read her story about coming clean about WLS.  I promise I'm getting closer to the question. She says that she lost 160 pounds in 3 years..that it took her that long. I've lost 120 pounds in 11 months (counting the weight lost and time before surgery). I thought that everything I read said 1 year and then it tapers off. I suppose that it's different for everyone. So, my question is, how much longer can I expect to lose weight? Am I going to stay in the 2's and never see the 1's? Will I ever get to my goal let alone Dr. Walton's goal??? I know that everyone is different...but..gosh...3 years to lose her 160 pounds..

Interesting. I wonder if she lost the bulk of it in that first year and just lost a minimal amount the following years. I don't have any answers but will be interested in hearing the response to this.

lower body lift 10/2010

Hey, girl! It makes me wonder the same thing. Everybody here is telling me that I look good now that I don't need to lose any more, but I want to hit the 1's and a size 10. I don't want to go smaller than that. I was a 9/11 in high school. My main goal is to hit the 1's and 150. Doc's goal is 130. We'll see where I bottom out..and when!

At 17 months out I am still losing, only about 4-5 pounds a month though. I suspect she lost the majority of her weight the first 12-18 months and then with PS she lost a little more.   At my one year I had reached my Dr. goal so he changes it now every time I go in.   I also think it all depends on your starting weight, age, etc., and the the individual procedure.  Some surgeons bypass more, some less.

I don't know how long any of us might lose but...I don't think that Star Jones is a very reliable source for anything regarding WLS.  She couldn't even be honest about having had anything done! Not that I'm cranky...! Kim

I don't think there's ever a limit when you can't continue to lose. It will slow down after the first several months to a year, but if you follow the dietary guidelines and exercise, we can all continue to lose as long as we choose.
Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

That's what I'm hoping, too. I know she isn't reliable..no celebrity ever is. Oh, I"m taping Dr. Phil today because there's a husband on there berating his wife for being overweight.  I'll just be P**** off at this guy, but that's ok.  Sigh..
