Pre-op I had to do the sleep study and they said I had mild sleep apnea.  So now I have an iron lung and am a new fighter pilot!  Not a very good look.  My question to you folks is how long until you think I'll be able to throw that thing away?? Thanks! Kim

The appropriate Medical response would be - after you have been tested again and it is determined the issue is relieved. Personally, I was able to ditch the monster within about 3-4 months following surgery.  I didn't re-test but I was told I no longer snored (by family) and I was able to sleep and rest better than I had in years.   I wish the sleep and rest thing would now return to normal from my back surgery!!!  But that is a whole 'nother story!!  ha!  Apparently I FLOP around like a fish in bed at night now.  We'll just leave THAT little story for another walk!! I sent you a private message earlier too! R

Yes, definitely need to ask on the fish flopping!! -  But, on the CPAP thing, I am in no way to be considered a good example, but I ditched the thing the day after surgery. I could not sleep with the machine, I hated the thing with a passion. I kept waking up several times during the night, and the next day I paid for it. I also was dignosed with mild sleep apnea, and according to my husband (not a very reliable source in my opinion) I don't snore anymore. I have been sleeping better after surgery, and I don't get sleepy during the day anymore. But as I said - not a good example - the correct way to do it, as Ruth said, is to get re-tested.

I ditched mine in November after surgery in October. No, I didn't consult anyone. I quit using it and I sleep now. My issue was that I had the opposite of apnea...I breathe shallowly and they were afraid that on the pain meds I'd forget to breathe, etc. I had to work realllllllllllllly hard to overcome claustrophobia in order to be a good girl and use it for awhile.
