Ryans resturant and gastric bypass

I posted this on another support group and thought I would post it here. Last night we went out to eat and the choice of resturants was Ryans I knew I could eat the chicken salad on the buffet and have some steak. To my shocking surprise I was told they did NOT honor any WLS cards showing that they customer has had surgery. THe jerk manager claimed that coprorate put a stop to it because of how people can go online and print off the cards. I showed my arze folks. I lifted up my shirt and asked the jerk DO YOU THINK I WENT ON LINE AND PRINTED MY DAMN SCAR? I can only eat 2 ounces of food so why in the hell WOULD I want to pay a full buffet price when I cant take none of it home? WOuld you want to pay for 500 pounds of supplies when all you needed was 200? The jerk..better know to me as  a douche bag said we will give you a discount this time my discount was 4.95. I came home wrote a letter to corporate and even scanned my card that Dr. Keith gave me ie has his name phone number and what kind of surgery I have had.  I know that there are scammers out there but heck this is crazy. Last weekend a group of us went to Golden Corral and ate. NO problem there with my getting a discount and the food was a heck of alot better. Plus the Manager came me a doggie bag when I couldnt finish my steak from the buffet.....

Nope he didnt and when I got my plate of food I made sure the douche bag saw it..yep I have a wicked southern attitude.

YEAH!!!!  Way to go Pattye.  I had the same experience here in OKC with Fire Mountain Restuarant which is owned by Ryans.  I ended up paying $8.95 for a hamburger patty.  My group of workers was with me and they were so mad that they would not honor my dr's instructions that they all called the corporate office and told them they they were not going to eat there any more and would tell everyone they knew that they do not honor dr's orders.  So far no one in my office has gone back to Fire Mountain and we have decided to boycott both Ryans and Fire Mountain and tell everyone that says anything about going there not to go. Pattye, I truly admire your moxy in standing up for yourself.  I also called the corporate office and they were about as rude as the manager here locally.  My sister has also had problems with Golden Corral in Ada not honoring the WLS card.  She gets past them by getting a to go order and when she pays for it she only has to pay around $3-4 and that would be less than the discounted price.  They would be better off letting her eat for a child's price or even a senior price.  Oh well , if they want to continue to lose money on WLS patients and their friends/family by not honoring our legimate cards then that is their business. Thanks again for standing up for us.

Call me dumb, but I had no idea we would get a card or that we could even show it at restaurants. My husband I have laughed about how we'd have to try to pull one over on the buffet nazi's (pardon my politically incorrectness) after I have surgery. I have friends (a married couple) that both had surgery 5 years ago. We were at a buffet with them at Riverwind. They ordered one buffet and two drinks. The cashier never blinked an eye. I'm learning so much every day!! And we won't be going to Ryan's or Fire Mountain thank you very much. Cindy

I just about spewed my water all over my keyboard when I read that you pulled your shirt up to ask him if you faked your scar!  LOL!!!  That is just too funny, although it doesn't sound like you were laughing too much.  Thanks for the warning not to eat there.

Dr Gorospe's group used to eat at Golden Corral at 71st and Mingo here in Tulsa for years so I know they know WLS people well and have never had a problem.  The IHOP I go to lets me order as I will and they cut me some slack.  Hell one night the manager actually made homemade spagetti (its not on the menu) and brought it out to me free of charge.  I take my crystal light packets in with me too and use half a packet to flavor my water.  They are all VERY supportive of me and are always telling me how good I am doing post-op. Patty you did an awesome job for standing up not just for yourself, but for all of us.  God Bless you babe!!

Thank you for the roses...lol I have never let some douche bags run over me and now I have more reasons to be a fighter. What gets me is here at Myrtle Beach they make a ton off the tourists and I cant see how in the heck it would kill the bottom line by honoring cards. I have sent another email and ask what would it take for them to honor us WLS folks...a statement that issued from our surgeons and Ryans issue us a card. What really gets my goat is they waste more food then they sell.  Golden Corral, Fish House, Applebees, Chilis, Sea Captains House, and even Firehouse subs have honored my card. Each time I have shown it I am asked to see the before pics of me. So I have received alot of support.....

Ok.. a question...I have one of those cards, I have yet to use it though...Do you all know if they (at least those that honor the card, such as Applebees) let you use it to order a smaller portion,of regular food or do you have to order from the children's menu? I ask because sadly most of the items on the children's menu is junk and not something I would want to eat.... - Anna
