4 pounds since yesterday???
Well, although I'm really trying not to weigh every day, I just haven't managed not to yet! This morning I weighed ... and I'm 4 lbs. less than yesterday! I'm thinking it's just fluids from all the IV fluids I got in the hospital, but everything is noticeably different ... hubby says he can tell (but he's so sweet he'd say that anyway). I didn't lose much at all on my pre-op diet .... even though I stuck to it and exercised, too. So, I guess my body is finally deciding ... a week or so later to let go of some of the weight. Anyway, I've never lost 4 lbs. in 24 hrs. before and I know it won't continue like this, but for today, I'm grinning ear to ear! : )
Great job Shelly!!!! Are you going to be able to attend the next support group meeting? Is it on May 13? I am going to go because I have my Dr. appt. on May 12 and they are supposed to schedule my surgery, and since she requires a support group meeting there in Norman I thought I better go ahead and get it out of the way. I was also going to ask you what all test do they do on you? Also what do they do when you go to physical therapy? Sorry for all the questions but I was just curious. Thank you for your time. Heather
I can certainly try to make that meeting! I'd love to meet you!!! : ) As far as testing, they did lab work, EKG, pulmonary function tests (EKG and pulmonary test done in the office), and then the psych evaluation. They also did more pre-op ...chest X-ray, more lab work, another EKG. Since I'm 50+ I also had to have a colonoscopy and recent mammogram. If you have any other health problems, they may require a visit with a cardiologist to get approval, or some other type of specialist. Heather, I'm so excited for you!!!! You will get excellent care!!! If you have any questions at all, just let me know. I'll try my best to answer fully. ; )
Oh, I forgot about your PT part of the question. You go to the Performance Center for your PT evaluation. They take your heart rate and blood pressure. They figure your *target heart rate zone* based on your age and condition .... this is the rate range they want your heart at during exercise to be most effective without overdoing. You walk gently on a treadmill for about 5 minutes and they check your heart rate. They go over specific exercises and plans for you and customize an exercise plan for you. They also give you their phone # so that you can contact them at any time with any questions. You'll be assigned a specific physical therapist that will be there to assist you. Also, they teach you to use your incentive spirometer for breathing and they figure your target zone for you on your spirometer. You need to use it 3 X a day for 10 times each session pre-op. Then you will use it hourly while awake post-op and when you go home. My PT was/is Dallas and she's a sweetheart! Just let me know if you have any more questions. Oh, wear comfy clothes and good walking shoes for your PT appt. ; )
Heather, you will probably be long gone before I get there. Sarah, the office nurse, will do your EKG and PFTs as soon as you're done with Dr. Nelson and Barry. Have you already met with Barry? That takes about 15 minutes.... he gives you your notebook and then you get scheduled for everything and go over all the financial details. You'll have a calendar in your notebook that you'll write all you appointments in on for your future visits ... and get your surgery date probably! : ) You'll also probably have to go down to the 1st floor diagnostics lab and have some lab work drawn. Later you'll probably have to see the nutritionist, the psych eval. and PT....usually on the same day. Barry will let you know your entire schedule tomorrow if you don't have it already. I'm guessing you'll only be there about 1 & 1/2 hrs. tomorrow, at the most. Good Luck!!! : )
