Congrats John on your weight loss...and even going below goal.  You will do fine and your date is right around the corner....The week before my surgery I went to a Rainbow gathering (hippie gathering) in AR and was afraid that the foods that I would be eating would cause me to gain or not be able to follow the liquid diet.  Luckily I brought everything with me to stay on the liquid part, what I didnt count on would be that my doc would cancel my surgery due to not quitting smoking for 2 months prior to surgery...for some reason I thought he told me 2 weeks but he said 2 months....so the day before he cancelled and rescheduled me 2 months out while making me come in every week to ua me for nicotine...talk about feeling stupid.   You are doing great and all will be completed before you know it..... See you on the other side soon... Deni

Ok,  I have to jump in here.  I tried to keep quiet but I can't.  I know one of the people that was turned away for weight loss and I think some of the rude comments made are so uncalled for.  I thought this was a support group.  Not a bash someone for something they have no control over.  My friend that was turned away was ill and happen to have lost a bunch of weight right in time for preop.  She was around 8 under where they wanted her.  2 weeks later and feeling better she had gained 8 pounds back (i do the same when sick and get better) and was right on target where they wanted her.  But because of the 8 pound gain they turned her down for surgery.  And here is the really bad part.  They (ww) have her money and won't set another date, call her back or refund her 14000 dollars.  Shame on WW.   I guess my point is that we should not start talking about people being stupid which is basically what you are saying when you refer to someone being a sandwich short of a picnic basket.  I love the OH board and am very ashamed right now to be say I live in Oklahoma with this kind of bashing going on.  Think I will sneek to the vsg board and watch there.  I don't want to be a part of a group like this.   I wish you all the best on your surgeries.

Sherri, My sincere apologies to you or anyone else that took my remarks as being rude. I was in no way making fun of the people that gained weight and were turned down because of it. I think that is a horrible thing to have happened to them. However, the surgeon made the best possible choice for the patient and their safety. My remarks were made about the people that tried to order pizza after surgery or ate Lasagna and busted out their stiches after surgery, or ate before surgery and said that they had not. These folks had control over their situation. If a person is going to have WLS they have to take responsibility for their overall success. As you know WLS is a drastic step and is only a tool. We fail the tool if we make poor judgements, the tool doesn't fail us. Please consider coming back to the Oklahoma boards. Also I hope your friend is persistant on pursueing her surgery with WW. I am certain that they will work with her .  It is not their style to take peoples money and not follow up with their agreement. Possibly there has been a mis-communication problem. If there is anything I can do please let me know. People *****ally know me, know that I am passionate about WLS and my involvement with it. Again, my sincere apologies. Rita

I did not intend to be rude in any way. I was specifically addressing a person eating a large meal just a few hours before surgery. This is risking their own life! With anesthesia, it is easy for gastric contents to come up the esophagus and be sucked into the lungs and causing life threatening pneumonia. Also, with surgery where the stomach is going to be cut, to have it full at the time of surgery would have caused life threatening spill of gastric contents/partially digested food into the abdominal cavity that can be deadly. Physicians have these rules for our own safety. Even the post-op eating restrictions are for *our* safety. That's all that I meant. I, too, am a bariatric patient and I know how hard it is to diet ... am currently on liquids only.....but I can follow my surgeon's orders to not eat before or after surgery to save my life and help my surgery be a success. In no way did I intend to bash anyone! It's all about our safety and success with bariatric surgery. It is dangerous to not follow the surgeon's directions.
Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

You totally misunderstood my post.  I was referring to someone who had already had the surgery and 3 days later ate egg drop soup and lasagna.  3 Days Later!!!  Thats during the 14 day liquid diet when the new pouch is the most vulnerable.  At no point did I, or anyone else, saying anything negative or derogatory towards anyone trying to get approved.  I fought this for 3 years until my parents finally decided to step in and help me on it.  I know what its like to be rejected, to lose your job cause you are fat, to lose weight and gain it back.  I know all of this.  None of us who have had surgery already have ANY right to talk bad about someone who hasn't yet, or opts not to have it for that matter.   I will say it again, I did not see, in any post by myself or anyone else, a time that anyone was making fun of pre-ops.  I am sorry you saw it that way, cause it was very clearly not mine, or anyone else's, intent.

That is great John, I've got 6 pounds to go myself to get my date. It's been a struggle but I can't wait for Dr. Broussard to give it the go ahead. I will say a prayer for you that all goes well and you're back up and running in no time.

Best ,

Shelby
