I did it!

Had my pre-op appointment with Dr. Walton this morning, and was 2 pounds BELOW the goal weight he had given me for surgery!   I was a little worried, as I have been at a business meeting the last three days with lots of food and booze around.  I was doing my best to make all the right choices, but I was still afraid there would be some gain.  I did actually take some time and go to the gymn at the hotel (my first time for that) and get my exercise in, so I guess it worked. I talked with Dr. W again about the fact that even they don't believe that surgery is a great option, it's just the best one available at this time.  He gave me one more warning about how this surgery is just a tool, and has to be used properly to acheive the proper results.  (Somehow I doubt that I've heard the last of that one... ).   I wrote my checks and got all of my instructions for what to do the next 11 days, so I guess it's really going to happen.   I'm still a little nervous, but now that I got this weigh-in behind me, I do feel a bit relieved. Anyhow, I'll be staying on my current pre-op diet until the day before surgery, and then going on clear liquids only for that day.  Not too bad compared to some of the things I've seen on the OH boards... no liquid fast, no bowel cleansers, etc... My patient advocate did tell me to be sure and stay on my current diet, as they have cancelled two surgeries recently when someone showed up on the day of surgery and had gained weight back.  I really don't have time for anything like that... Anyhow, I"m counting down the days now - just wanted to share my good news with all of you. Have a great day! John

CONGRATULATIONS John!!!! That's Wonderful! I'm so happy for you!

Your surgery will be here in no time!

I see my surgeon, Dr. Nelson, in just a couple of hours for my pre-op discussion for surgery next Tuesday. The last month has flown by!

At my pre-op orientation class, the nurse told us about a patient (no name of course, just the situation) who came in the morning of surgery. Said they had not eaten anything at all since midnight. Then, when the surgeons got in to do the surgery, they saw the *stomach* was FULL of food (before any cutting of the stomach, of course....just by seeing it with the lap camera)!!! They had to back out and I guess they rescheduled! I don't know what the person was thinking by eating the morning of surgery....that's terribly dangerous! Anesthesia would have never put them to sleep had they known.

Congrats again on making weight and getting your surgery soon!

Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

Shelly, Makes you wonder if their elevator goes all the way to the top doesn't it? Or a few toys short of a happy meal!!! LOL. Sometimes I don't know what they are thinking. I know of a patient (not at weight wise) that ordered a pizza to be delivered to their room after surgery. Makes you wonder how they ever passed the pysch testing.

John, that is great news. Yes, you want to be careful and not gain anything because we will send you  packing until it comes back off. You are going to be fine though. Yea, your time is almost here. Let me know if I can do anything for you, Rita

So they really are that strict about the weight, huh?  Wow! Ok, I can do this!  Congratulations to you in making the weight!  That is a very big thing!  Your surgery will be here before you know it!  It's interesting that you saw  Dr. Walton at pre-op.  I wasn't sure how that would go.  Keep us posted on everything as you go along.  I wish you all the best! PS Save a spot for me on the losers bench!  Kim

Awesome work my only brother on OH!!  You will do fine and soon be on the loser's bench where I will finally have another guy to sit here and talk about guy stuff with lol. As for the idiot who ordered the pizza, when i went in for my 2 week one of the guys in the waiting room was talking about a neighbor of his who had surgery and 3 days afterwards went out to a Chinese place and had egg drop soup.  THEN he came back home later that night and ate lasagna!!  He busted out his staples and ended up in the ER.  They had to go in and remove meat and lasagna noodles from his body cavity.  IDIOT!!!

Dan, that guys sounds like he was 2 sandwiches short of a picnic, a few clowns short of a circus, 1 Brady short of a Bunch, didn't have all his dots on one dice, his carpet didn't reach wall to wall, 1 brownie short of a full plate, a bird short of a flock, a chapter short of a book, not the hottest burner on the stove, 1 drop short of an empty bladder, his wheels are spinning but the hamster is dead, his receiver is off the hook, and slower than a turtle stampeding in peanut butter. If you get my drift!!!! LOL
