Liz, How's it going?
I'm doing good, except for this horrible liquid diet. I'm really struggling with wanting something to eat. I never imagined it would be this difficult. I'm drinking water, SF Kool-Aid, SF Jello, SF popsicles, broth, but it's just not cutting it. I don't know how you all managed to make it thru without losing your sanity! LOL
Yep, I've almost lost my sanity and it may not come back either! LOL I did go out this afternoon and get some Atkins shakes that are chilling in the fridge. But I dreamed last night that I drove thru every fast food restaurant in town looking for something to eat! Anna says I'm in food withdrawal and I believe it!!!
Liz, it was great to meet you the other day in the hospital. Hang in there it will truly get easier. Listen to Rita the protein drinks will keep you satisfied a lot longer than the SF jello, popsicles, etc. It is hard to get adjusted to this new life no matter which surgery you have. You will rise above this and be stronger and on the other side of liquids before you know it. Just think three more days and you will be half finished with the liquid stage. Just continuously sip on drinks, crunch on SF popsicles. Keep you eye on the final outcome of this life style change and it will be worth it. I don't know if you journal or not but that has really helped me keep perspective and to write down my feelings and keep my mind set on getting to the soft food stage. If you don't have a hand hobby right now then learning a new needle craft will keep your hands busy and your mind off food. I'm not saying you will not have some hunger pangs but it will help to pass your time. I love to scrapbook and sew so I stayed very busy and it helped to pass the days. I also made out my menu for the first week of soft foods so that really gave me something to look forward to while drinking the liquids. I don't know what kind of protein drinks you have but some of my favorites at Weight Wise are the hot chocolate, wild passion berry, grape and the Pro To Go chocolate. I also tried the cream chicken soup and drank the broth off of it. I also had strained egg drop soup and it was a life saver. Just make sure you get as much of the egg out as possible. It was a really nice break from the other things. I hope some of these suggestions will help you make it through the next few days.
Take care of yourself and just take it one day at a time.

I ate soft scrambled eggs with cheese and refried beans with cheese a lot of the time. I ate some of the protein food from Weight Wise such as the sloppy joes and the bbq. I also bought some of my favorite soups and blended them so they would be soft. I also ate a lot of egg drop soup with the egg in it this time. The second week I got to add deli meat and dark meat chicken so that was divine. The main thing to remember when you start soft foods is to take it easy and quit before you are to full and chew it very well. I still eat and drink some of the foods from Weight Wise basically because I over bought them and don't want to waste them. During the week my breakfast is usually one of the drinks and then a food lunch and dinner.

I don't think Dan was sane when he started this journey..... (love ya buddy!) but as everyone agrees - you will get through it!!
I have heard stories that if you drink your protein from a closed container aka sports bottle, and ice cold, it makes it easier. I couldn't stomach the nasty little things, but it sounds like good advice!!
Hang in there....BIG HUGS!!
