Lakegirl Lives! Notes from the hospital

For those of you who are curious, I went back for surgery a little before noon today and I have to say that this has NOT been nearly as tough as I had imagined it.  For one, I have been walking the halls at a normal pace, fluids are not a problem and I have very minimal pain.  I would say that I have had some naseau but that was knocked out really quickly with the meds.  Right now, I am SO happy I had this surgery and am SO happy that I had it at Weight Wise.  Talk about being spoiled!  Well good night all - hope all is well with you. Robyn, I am so glad everything is going good. Sounds like you have been the model patient. Glad everyone is spoiling you. Hope you have a restful night with minimal pain.  Welcome to the other side, Rita

Even though I don't know you, I thought of you today when I was at weightwise.  I had the diet class this afternoon and when I walked through the front doors downstairs I thought about you being in there and wondered if you were okay.  I'm so happy for you. -Amy

Great news, Robyn! I'm so happy for you! I have to say I'm a little jealous that you're getting to drink already ... I know I won't get any fluids (except for IV****il after the gastrografin swallow the morning after surgery. ; ) Great going with the walking! I hope you have a wonderful speedy recovery! Thanks for posting to us from the hospital!
Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

Hey Lakegirl!  I can't believe you're posting so soon!  Are you posting from WeightWise?  I do have a question for you.  Will they have you do some kind of barium swallow before you leave to check for leaks?  I wasn't sure but have been reading other posters comments and wondered.  I'm hoping the VSG recovery will be like my Lap removal of my gallbladder.  That was easy! Take good care of yourself and post often so the rest of us know what to expect!  I'm so glad you're doing so well!  Kim

While I was out, they put a blue die down the tube to test for leaks.  Then I came to and the only remnant was some blue die on my face.  Dr. B said it was a perfect surgery.  Yes, I posted from WW last night - they had wi fi.

Dr. Nelson does intraoperative testing, too. But that is followed up by a gastrografin swallow the next morning, and then blue ice testing. No oral fluids until all tests are passed. I'll make it! : )

Debtfree - I was at the nutrition class yesterday too.  I'm so sorry that I missed you.  It thought about posting here to see if anyone was going to be there and then I forgot!  I'm sure I'll meet you some time! Kim

Kim. We typically don't do the upper GI after the sleeve unless there is a problem. They do a leak test on you with dye in surgery. That pretty much has replaced the UGI post -op, Rita

Surgeons are very different. Dr. Nelson does intraoperative leak testing, along with intraoperative endoscopy, too. Then there is a Gastrografin swallow the next morning and then if that's ok, the blue ice test. When all are passed, oral fluids can begin. ; )  I should be pretty much leak proof once all the testing has been passed. ; )
Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly
