Did anyone see the piece on gastric bypass tonight on 60 Minutes?  I was so set on VSG but, man, they made it look good!  Why am I so confused on such an important decision in my life?  Anybody have any input?

Glitter Gal:   I missed it, darn it, but I meant to watch it.  I know several patients who have basically zero diabetes now after RNY surgery.  It is amazing that most even come home from the hospital with seriously decreased units of insulin.  I myself was pre-diabetic, it was just a matter of time.  My father passed most of his "good" health (being sarcastic) to me.   The confusion is just the need to research all your options.  Remember what we talked about the other night?  There is a reason why you have to "jump" through hoops, it gives you the time you need to be comfortable with your decision.   On another note, I may end up just walking with you guys on Saturday instead of going on the memorial on sunday.  I still want to pick up my packet, but I would much rather walk with you guys instead!  We'll just have to see!! have a great week!!

I missed it, but VSG is the one for me .... and actually my only option due to autoimmune disease. But, honestly, it would be the surgery I would choose even if I was autoimmune disease free. I plan on carefully following the instructions from my surgeon, dietician, physical therapist, and psychologist and I think it will be successful.

Do your research, pray about it, and follow your heart. Each of us will have a surgery that's right for us ... and there are no wrong surgeries. ; ) Choose what you feel is best for you, your situation, and your health.

Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

It is a tough decision, and even if you speak with a doctor or two you may be confused.  I think in the end, it's whatever your heart tells you to do.

My heart needs to speak louder!  I really want to do the sleeve but I sure don't want to regain or, worse yet, never lose enough to start with.  I don't like to think that I might not be able to take the proper meds if I develop something icky on down the road.  But I'm not diabetic so I don't need RNY for that.  Hmmmm!  I guess I can save my questions for Apr 30 when I have my next round of appointments.  I have 4 appointments back to back that day.  I haven't met Kathy yet.  Maybe she can offer some advice?

Kim, You will make the right decision. You still have time to decide. Just keep researching and if you are in doubt Dr. Walton is an excellent listener. If I can help you in any way give me a shout, Rita
