Can I really lose 18 lbs in 4 weeks

I'm doing the pre-op diet and really having a hard time.  The shakes are nasty in my opinion.  I'm logging my food on dailyplate.com and staying between 800-950 calories a day.  I would have to lose 4.5 lbs a week for the next 4 weeks to pull this off.  I found an old weigh****chers card that showed my original weight at 350 and I am hoping that Dr. B will take that into consideration.  I weighed 343 when I met with him but had already started losing weight.  I really need a May 21st surgery date to work with my work and school schedule.  Send me some loser vibes please!

Amy, I think you can do it! Just try to exercise 30 minutes each day and tough out the diet. I don't know what your diet is like, but I'm on my 10 day pre-op diet ... so I understand. I'm using meal replacements and protein shakes. The New Directions meal replacements aren't half bad, as a matter of fact, I have had had some that are good! I'm using Nectar Roadside Lemonade as my protein shake .... I add just a tad of Crystal Lite and it's pretty good, too. I'm allowed some food at lunch and dinner .... 2 - 4 ozs. of lean meat and 1/2 cup of healthy steamed veggies or 1 c. raw veggies. Also, SF popsicles are allowed.

I'm trying to stay busy and not think of food, but rather concentrating on other things and getting through surgery as easily as possible with a liver as small as possible. Pre-op dieting can shrink the liver as much as 30% and make it much easier for the surgeon to get behind it to get to your stomach .... and MUCH easier on you to lessen any risk of liver damage during surgery.

I'll keep you in my prayers and pray that your diet becomes easier and that you are very successful! You can do it! Snowball that diet and be gazelle intense! : )

Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

Hi There. My Pre-op diet consisted of liquids only. I look back on that and I lost 16 lbs in 2 weeks. I would have lost more too, but I ate my favorite places too many times ! The Atkins Shakes (chocolate ones) are pretty tolerable as well as the Slim Fast LOW CARB chocolates are really good. Watch out though because after surgery, the Slim Fast ones gave me diarreah !! I can still tolerate the Atkins shakes okay. my diet had me drinking 1 shake 30 min prior to each meal, and then certain things after that...............inbetween meals - getting 20 oz of water or non-carbonated beverage(s)....if you are interested, please email me [email protected] and I can send you a copy of that diet plan. I think too that it gives us a foundation of how we should eat (timing wise) AFTER surgery.
  • Pease check out Dr. Connie Stapleton's Website. A lot of good information on there for all WLS patients regardless of the surgery you chose.  Good luck to all and I'm here for you if you want to send me an email.  I'll answer it as soon as possible.
  • Total Lost:  139 lbs

I too am doing the sleeve.  However, my surgery date has changed to the 23rd to accomodate my school schedule.  You will be 2 days ahead of me!
