After 3 years of trying to figure out how I was going to be able to get my surgery, I am finally able to get a loan for it. I have done everything I need to do up to this point, except that I have to lose 30 pounds. I even quit smoking. I am having the hardest time losing this 30 pounds. Does anyone have any suggestions or advise? I am so frustrated right now. They gave me a 1200 calorie diet to follow, but for some reason, I am just having a difficult time sticking with it. Please help. Thank you and God BLess you.

the only advice i can give is to follow the diet as best you can , and exercise, exercise, exercise , even if it is just 20 or 30 mins a day , and dont get frustrated and beat yourself up if you slip up.  Just remember you are doing this to get healthy , and to be healthier as you go into surgery.

I do things to keep me highly motivated. I visit Sparkpeople.com, I watch shows like *You Are What You Eat*, *The Biggest Loser*, and *I Can Make You Thin*. Maybe visit the bookstore and pick up some new healthy eating cookbooks. Journal what you're eating and get your exercise ... and journal that, too. Clear out the unhealthy foods and get things like sugar free popsicles, healthy fruit, grape tomatoes and cucumbers to have as snacks. Remind yourself that you're making progress to a healthier you and it's not about dieting! ; ) I'll pray for it to go smoother for you and for you to really feel motivated.
Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

Pam:  Congratulations on finally being able to see the end result of all your hard work come to fruition!  You have chosen one of the best docs around (I love Dr B & Dr W!) It IS hard to lose the weight pre-op, but it is for the best!  Keep in mind all of the things the NUTs (Jess or Chris) have told you, come here for support AND go to Support Group!  Please know that we all have your best interests and we are here to help! There is a Support Group meeting for RNY & VSG next Thursday at WeightWise, please come if you haven't been!!  There are many patients at various stages of their personal journey and you can ask a lot of questions!!  I'll be there if you want to talk as well! The thing to remember is this is "part" of your surgery.  It will help the docs make it a more successful surgery and you will feel better for it in the long run. Good Luck and Please let me know if you need support!  If you would like, add me to your friends list and go to my own support group page shown below and check in - I am starting to add information there that might be valuable to you in the future!

Pam, If you are having a hard time with that diet there are plenty more Jess or Chris can offer you and put you on. Call whomever it is that you see and chat with them. That's what they are there for ,and you will have many options. You have come this far and you can do this! Keep your eye on the prize. It honestly will not take that long to lose the 30 pounds. I know it is hard, but it is do able.PM me if you need to. Hang in there, Rita  Good Job on quitting smoking, atta girl.

I had to lose 30 pounds pre-op and was on the diet from Jess. She put me on aggressive ketotic after the 2nd month..The food is good. Use this time to work on battling head hunger. It took me 4 months to lose it with only going off it 1 time during my mother's funeral. I had ups and downs in my weight along the way, but I got it done to have surgery in time. You've got to want it really badly. That is the only advice I can give you. I determined that nothing was going to get in the way of my getting this surgery. I'm stubborn. That served me well during that time, plus I had a LOT of support at home. Clean out the fridge and pantry of junk food, unless you have family members. I didn't make them eat any differently than I was. You can do this, you really can. You just have to keep your eyes on the prize.

I'm on that preop diet too.  I'm have 24lbs to lose by May 21st.  I normally can't stick to any kind of diet for this time I am just digging my heels in because I want this surgery so bad.  I know this tool will help me be successful this time.  Call and talk to them, let them know how bad you are struggling.  They can give you other suggestions.
