I recently joined a gym... YEAH... and this gym has those funny looking toning beds. I have not tried them yet because i think i will look like a total dork laying there letting the machine do the work...  but... if they work and will help me start to tone up some lose skin after surgery... i will do it and just accept that i am a dork.  :) Has anyone tried them??  Had any success?  Should I do it before or after cardio?  Thanks, niky

I did the toning beds once when I hadn't done anything physical for quite some time.  If you resist like they teach you, they do have some small benefit...I think they are mostly a very tiny step forward for most of us.  If you are already working out at the gym, I can't see the value of the machines other than maybe some flexibility improvement.  When I did the machines, I had purchased one month. I did them a month and then began to do aerobic work outs and ride my bike and that is when the noticable changes began. That's just my opinion. Good luck!!!

Niky; I joined Tan & Tone America three weeks post-op, I do either a 30 minute or 50 minute work-out depending on time. In two weeks I lost 13 inches..I think they do work, and if you use your strenght with the machine, you truly feel the work-out; I do other exercises as well...walking about 20 minutes per day, and just started 15 minutes on the elliptical machine per day (working up to 30 minutes). So, all in all, I think the toning excercises are worth it, I enjoy them very much, and again, you need to use your strenght, otherwise, they are not very effective. -Anna

I love them! Resist like you're supposed to and the machine doesn't do all the work. I've been meaning to go in since surgery and haven't found the time yet. I belonged to the one in Enid..great fun and meeting people to chat with.

Thanks!  I will try them out.  It makes sense that you have to use your strength to resist against them to be most effective.

ok..i finally tried them today.  yes...i felt like a fool...hehe... BUT i made sure i was using my own strength to work with the machines.  And MAN, i could really feel it.  i am going to try it a few more times to see if it really works, but so far, other than feeling a little foolish with the big muscle men weight lifters just 15 feet away... it was good.  Thanks for all the advice! I lost major inches with them when I was going regularly. I'm signing back up today because they just lowered their join price here!  I plan to do my Tae Bo tapes, Tan and Tone and walking on the treadmill and out of doors  as my cross training..not ready for the gym thing yet, though I would LOVE to do water aerobics..yeah...hangly danglies in the pool and all..
