Diet and carbonated drinks response ....
I thought this was good information to share. I know this topic has come up before, so I thought you might enjoy reading this from the nutrition forum on OH. LINK.
Hello HopefulDiana,
My name is Robin and I'm new to this forum. I noticed reading that your Doctor is Tony Broussard. I have selected him as well.. Could you give me some information on your experiance. I'm a little scared and I'm just looking for all the information I can get right now. I hope you are doing well... Robin
Gladly! My husband and I both had our RNY's by Dr. B. We both love him. He's really down to earth but he is also an excellent surgeon. We both had no complications. Our incisions healed beautifully. I really have a lot of confidence in Dr. B. I was concerned about WLS because I have always had a finicky stomach. Every morning I wake up feeling slightly queasy. I never ate breakfast until 10 am because of that feeling. Dr. B did an EGD to be sure what he was facing inside my stomach prior to surgery. He didn't want any surprises and I think that is a very sound decision.
On the day of my surgery, there was a revision prior to me and it took longer than expected so I ended up waiting an extra hour. I panicked a little and was thinking I should back out. But thank God I didnt!!
When I woke up in recovery, I was not in a lot of pain. I had much more pain with childbirth and my hysterectomy. The pain ball they attach is wonderful!! It's a medicine ball that drains into your stomach through a tiny tube and keeps the area nice and numb. It is fully drained by the time you check out of the hospital.
I found the nursing staff to be so wonderful and caring. I have had 2 kids, an exploratory lap, a tubal ligation, my gallbladder removed, a hysterectomy, and an EGD/colonoscopy. In all of these experiences, Foundation Bariatrics Hospital was the best hospital experience by a mile!
I know it is only natural to ******vous and believe me I was!! But I have no doubt in my mind that you are in excellent and caring hands.
If you have more questions, feel free to ask. I'm more than happy to help you out in your journey.
Good luck!!!
ONEDERLAND!!!! FINALLY!!!! WHOOOO HOOOOO!
I had the Dr. Pepper habit, too, until about 3 years ago. I decided to stop caffeine because of my blood pressure (sky high) and I was also going to Weigh****chers at the time. I had a tremendous headache when I stopped for several days, but once I got through that, it was OK. I figured anything that gave me that bad of a headache when I stopped surely couldn't be good for me! I've now been caffeine free for about 3 years. Well, except when we go out and they only offer caffeinated tea. I stopped all sodas about 3 months ago. It was much easier than when I broke the Dr. Pepper/caffeine habit. I was on caffeine free Diet Coke for most of the 3 years post Dr. Pepper and caffeine. It was much easier to stop than the initial caffeine quitting. My tastes have changed drastically since I used to be hooked on Dr. Pepper. Now the thought of Dr. Pepper seems WAY TOO SWEET. I know it's hard, but it is possible. Just have some headache medicine on hand if you have the same reaction that I did. Good Luck!
