If you could please help answer this question I would be greatly appreciative.  If you are a self pay, what surgeon did you choose and why?  Thanks so much.

I am a self pay, but I haven't had my surgery yet.  I have it scheduled for 4-23.  I can tell you that I chose Dr. Broussard because I haven't heard anything but good things about him (and Dr. Walton too).  I had a comfort level listening to him at the initial seminar and my first appointment with him clinched it for me.  I don't know how helpful that was, but that is my reasoning.

Self-pay (financed through Capital One) with Dr. Walton. I chose him because I trust him completely. I knew I was in good hands. Dr. B is also a nice, skilled man as well. He assisted on mine.

I am self pay though Dr Gorospe.  If I could change one thing about this process its the fact than NO ONE can give you a set price of how much to expect to pay.  There is no one person you can just drop $40K in front of and tell them "you take care of who it needs to go to".  As for why I picked Dr.Gorospe...experience.  The first Dr to ever perform gastric bypass in Oklahoma, near 4000 surgeries done to date, and one of the lowest mortality rates in the WORLD.  Plus i just cannot say enough about how sweet the ladies are who work for him and how AWESOME the nurses and staff are at Bailey Medical Center.

I'm not self-pay, but I was prepared to be. I'm not scheduled yet, but I should receive my date next Monday. I think in Oklahoma we are very blessed to have several excellent options for WLS. I actually haven't heard of any objections or bad reports about any of the surgeons in OK.  I have chosen Oklahoma Weight Loss Options surgeons and Norman Regional Hospital for several reasons. 1) The surgeons have excellent reputations and experience. 2) They are preferred providers with our insurance ... and money isn't the main factor in their practice. They also provide services for medicare and medicaid patients....which is not easy for many to obtain since they receive lower payment for those. 3) Norman Regional Hospital is a *Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery* with Dr. Keith and Dr. Nelson's program. 4) It's the same hospital where my PCP and rheumatologist practice so if I should have any need for them, they are already there! 5) It's close to home for appointments, follow-up, support group meetings, etc. (I love living in Norman.) Basically, I don't think you could go wrong with any of the WLS programs that I know about in OK. Each of them are quality programs and have many successful and very pleased patients! Good Luck with your surgery!    Shelly

I was self pay, went to Mexico.  Honestly, I had a couple of Okie Doctors picked out, called one of the ones that advertise on here and prayed "God, let the one I choose be the first one to call."  It worked out well for me, but by the time you pay to get into a local dr.'s program or drive for a fill, you haven't saved that much money.

I am using Dr. Nelson now in Norman and she's been great.  I've also met Dr. Gornicheck and have been impressed with him.

For me, going off was a fun adventure, I'm familiar with Mexico and it gave me some space I needed between me and my family to get this started.  But the same reasons it worked for me might make you miserable.
