Hello to all the Ok's out there!  I spoke with Dr. Broussard this week.  He seemed very focused and stricked.  I really wish I was going to be local for the groups and other benefits but at this point I will settle for a very skilled and caring doctor and have to find my aftercare here in Las Vegas, NV.  Dr. Broussard said I would have to loose 14 lbs. before surgery.  Did you all have to loose too?  Also, I am a real stickler for cleanliness so can you all recommend a hotel near by that is VERY clean and not too much money kind of like a 4 or 5 star at a 3 star price?  My husband and I are so excited.  I will spend this week gathering all the things I need for the Dr. and soon have a date.  OMGoodness  I feel so blessed today!

Welcome and congrats on choosing a great doctor! I had to lose 10% of my body weight or 33 pounds prior to my surgery at the same clinic with Dr. Walton. They require this because it helps to shrink, I think, the liver but Cricket can say for sure. The liver and stomach are very close together. By shrinking things, the doctor has an easier time doing the surgery with things kind of out of the way if that makes sense. I started the diet in June and had surgery in October. The facility is beautiful and comfortable. You have made a great decision. As far as hotels, I live here in Edmond and haven't been to one recently. Some of the more local people can probably help you out with that.

Hey Gina, Welcome to Oklahoma!!! I had to loose 27 pounds pre-op. By losing weight in makes the surgery easier on you ,but most importanly easier on your Dr. If you can lose weight and shrink your liver somewhat it makes it alot easier to manipulate around in there during surgery. The liver actually has to be lifted up so they can get to your stomach. Check out the Sleep Inn and Suites on line. It is located at 3608 South Broadway in Edmond. It is not far from the hospital. They are very nice. Phone number is 405-844-3000

You will absolutley love our hospital. I know how excited you are. When are you coming to see Dr. Broussard? See ya soon, Rita

Welcome!  I have to lose 10% also, 37 lbs.  I think you might have to lose only 5% if you have a lower BMI, but not 100% sure on that.  Dr. Broussard will be my surgeon also.  I've chosen the sleeve.  From everyone says, Dr. Broussared is one of the best.  The Weight Wise hospital is totally dedicated to WLS surgeries, so I feel very comfortable in having my surgeries there.  All of the staff is great, very caring and willing to help us in our journey.  You might check out www.tripadvisor.com, they have user reviews of all of the hotels across the country.  Just go in and look up Edmond and you can see the top rated hotels actualy rated by travelers with candid reviews and a lot of times they have pictures of the hotels/rooms that people take during their stay and post to the site.

gina: welcome to the weightwise and oh families!!  you are in great hands with dr b!  dr w was my surgeon but dr b has always been involved in my case as well since i have had some complications.  nothing the docs couldn't handle though!  they are my angels and i would be happy to tell the whole world about it!! i hit a loss of 175 lbs last week in just about 20 months out of RNY and I am only a few lbs from my final goal.  even through the complications - strictures and ulcers, i have had world class care and attention from the staff and surgeons at ww.   as far as the support groups go, it would be great for you to be able to make them, but understandable that you can't just hop on the road and get here!  the oh family can help since a bunch of us are here as well!  also i am sure the dr b can direct you to some groups locally. you could also check out the nevada boards for assistance. we look forward to talking to you!  if you need anything, just let us know and as you get closer to your surgery let us know and we can check on you at the hospital as well!  we have some insiders there!  rita! and i am only a few minutes away as well. best of luck! r
