Eating Out

Popping in really quickly before I head out for work this morning to ask you all a question. i have no problems eating at home. However, eating out proves a challenge. My favorite "go to" restaurants here have changed cooks  and are no longer pouch friendly. Here's the crazy part. All the fast food Mexican food places and their meat sit well with me..you'd think they wouldn't..would be too greasy. Nope. No problems with the taco salads. School cafeteria is faboo because we recently added a salad bar line. Offerings like the fresh fruit also great. HOWEVER, we went to Outback last Friday night, and 2 bites later I was in the restroom kissing the porcelain. Steak is no problem, but somethjing went haywire there. Last night, DH wanted to go to Denny's. NOTHING on there works. If it's cooked on a flat grill, it will not stay down. I have a lot of problem with fat and meat not cooked on an open flame. I got severely nauseious last night before we got home. My question is where do you all eat when your family wants to dine out?

When I go out to eat I order grilled chicken or steak.  Then I add a veggie like green beans or mixed veggies.  I do okay with Mexican food and it's my favorite so I'm thanksful for that.  Good luck to you on finding foods that work for your pouch.

Do you have problems with the flat grill vs. open flame?? I do better with the open flame. Baked potatoes and salads are my standbys which I know I'm not supposed to have baked potatoes, but i don't do the butter and just put cheese and meat on there.  It's really crazy that I can handle school cafeteria meat and not others...must've been the crazy seasonings on it. It can get really discouraging sometimes hoping that wherever we pull up in front of will have SOMETHING that I can eat there. Mexican food is my favorite too, so that helps...but I miss chilli rellenos and deep fried stuffed jalapenos..Pace picante is my addiction since surgery. It goes on everything at home.

What kind of mexican food do you eat at restaurants?  Fajitas?

At Taco Bell: Fiesta Taco Salad (Beef) At Taco Bueno: Taco salad or (bad bad) Mucho Nachos. I'm addicted to their queso. When I eat the nachos, I eat mostly just the toppings. I tried tamales the other day, and they worked. That's why I don't understand why Outback with what you would think would be a higher quality of meat would make me sick. It's the first time I"ve thrown up in a restaurant bathroom...so embarrassing. I had instant pain when the meat hit..and I chewed like I was supposed to do. I know that the instant pain means it's coming right back up. Sorry for being so graphic. The best place for me to eat is Western Sizzlin in Enid or even Golden Corral to build a sald or Johnnie's chef salad that lasts me 2-3 days. I'm not a fajita fan, but the chicken works great in salads at home.

So, you eat the taco salads without the shell?  Can you eat very  much of it?

Yes, without the shell. I can eat 1/2 of it most days.Any time we go out to eat, I take home lots of leftovers.

I'm just the opposite, I find it easier to eat out than at home.  hmmm....maybe its subcontious that I don't want to cook...hehe   Really, I eat well going out to eat like Golden Corral (yes I know its a buffet) but I get to eat several different kinds of foods and it stays hot.  Because when I order a "dinner' out, by the time I have cut it up in pea size bites and chew chew chew - the food is cold.  Try requesting med. rare steaks - they go down better.  I have a hard time with little tiny shreaded lettuce more so than the bigger lettuce.

Charlotte, I haven't gone out to eat since my surgery. A couple of times I have gone through Taco Bell and ordered their Pinto's and cheese. I;m saving tons of money alone just by not hitting the drive-thrus anymore. Sometimes I would go thru them 2-3 times a day. If not for food, it would be for a 44 oz coke. You probably ate the steak to fast at outback. That happens to me a lot. Yesterday we had ON THE BORDER brought to us at work. It smelled so good. I was actually hungry. I ate a few bites of fajita chicken, beans, cheese and Quacamole. Man did I feel the "Bariatric Pressure" LOL.. What happened was I was eating it too fast. Threw up six times. Tasted much better going down, Rita

I just really wish there were a Bariatic friendly restaurant. I have a hard time with fats in meat, and no way do I want the meat done less than medium well. I just try to go somewhere that I can build a sald or as a last resort have a half of a baked potato no butter with cheese, which I know potatoes are off limits. I don't have them a lot. For the most part, I stick to my list of approved foods, and that's why I cook so much at home. I read the labels and know what I'm consuming.  All meat at home goes on the George Foreman my MIL gave me.  Now that Spring/Summer are coming on, dh is going to begin grilling outdoors, and that always agrees with me because we were still grilling in November! Golden Corral works because I can build a salad or get veggies without having to have a whole buffet menu on my plate. Thanks for all the suggestions. I don't do drive-thrus anymore because I can't eat and drive like I used to. Here's one confession: last night I dreamed about Carl's Junior's breakfast burger AKA heart attack on a bun. Woke up this morning swearing I could taste it. Didn't have them very often, but they were oh so good..hamburger, ketchup, hasbrowns, eggs, cheese...yummy...and about 2000 calories!
