Hey all~      I'm really debating between Dr. Gorospe and Dr.Broussard and the weightwise staff. I live closer to Dr. G. I just really need to think cost friendly. Does anyone know what Dr. B' s costs are for the lapband procedure and what all that includes? Opinions/experiences?  Thanks for the input! Joni

joni: I really can't tell you about the costs, I wish I could, but if you hare looking for a reference for Dr. Broussard and WeightWise, I'll go there in a heartbeat!  Dr. Walton, Dr. Broussard and WeightWise have saved my life.  I am today 176 lbs lighter than I was when I started the program at WeightWise.  I know several people personally who have lost 200 lbs and would credit Walton and Broussard.   Although Dr. W did my surgery, Dr. B was 2nd and also had a hand in my follow up care, 3 EGDs due to stricture & ulcer, dehydration, Gastric Ulcer, etc.  My road has not been easy but the entire time I knew that I was just a phone call away for help.  If you want someone to sugar coat your journey, these men are not the place to land.  They will always tell you the truth, tell you the options and help you every step of the way to make your choices.   The program is very successful and I have never spoken to anyone who genuinely were not in love with Dr W and Dr B and the staff.  It is to their credit that their patients are loyal, loving and successful and very willing to talk about their experiences.   If you have the opportunity, the best way to learn information is to attend a seminar.  They have Saturday seminars frequently so it should be easier for someone from your area to attend.  There are patients from all over the state, Kansas, Texas, LA who have gone through the program.    You will find a lot of us here as well, so you have asked at the right forum!   If you need seminar dates, www.weightwise.com and click on Events, Seminars.  You can even register directly from the calendar.   If you have any other specific questions, I would be happy to help you.  I don't have any experience with Dr. Gorospe, but I know there are a lot of his patients here as well.   Good Luck on your journey for information and choice.   R

Sorry don't know about Dr Broussard's prices. Personally, I think Dr G is great and his staff.  He has been doing these surgeries for many years and I had great comfort putting my trust in him when I had my surgery.  I did have the RNY and not lapband, but that was because I wanted to 'cure' my diabetes. I also prefer to stay closer to home, to make follow-up care easier and more convenient. Best of luck on your journey.

Dr. Broussard is my surgeon and I had surgery three weeks ago. To sum it up, I would not have gone anywhere else in the world, but Dr. Broussard and Weightwise. The surgeons are outstanding and the the follow-up is great; I could't do this without this type of support. Best of luck!

Hi.  I do not have an opinion on Dr. G, but Dr. Broussard was my surgeon a week ago and I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon.  From day one he made it clear what his expectations were of me and this program, which I appreciated.  He and the Weight Wise staff are the most attentive, loving people that I have had the pleasure to know.  The day of my surgery he came in and put me at ease prior to going into surgery, met with my family afterwards and took time to answer all their questions and came back to see me at the end of his day to make sure I was doing fine and gave me a little pep talk and told me how proud he was of me and that I was going to be "skinny" soon.  He is so positive and up front in all of his conversations with me and my DH.  Before I was released the next day he came by with another Q&A time, pep talk, and got me out as quickly as possible so I could go home to my own bed.  I wouldn't go to anyone else and I look forward to recommending anyone who is looking at weight loss surgery to go to him or Dr. Walton and the Weight Wise staff. Good luck on your WLS journey and keep in touch.

Joni, Here is a reply I made earlier about the cost of the gastric sleeve at weight wise. For the price of the band call 405-359-2473 and they should be able to tell you. I had my RNY there Dec 12, 2007 and would not have had it anywhere else. I work for Foundation Bariatric Hospital of Oklahoma. From a patient and an employee prospective, you can't beat the price and care. Our followup program is also excellent. It's definately a plus to be able to rely on a good followup program. Hope this helps, Rita

Wendus, I can understand that you and others would want to know exactly how much it could cost you. However, there is no way for them to tell you in advance because for instance you may have insurance that does not cover WLS, but does pay for a sleep study because you have symptoms consistent with sleep apnea. Insurance may pay for a dietary evaluation and recommendation because you have diabetes, or even for your pre-op evaluation if the Dr's diagnois previously unknown conditions. On top of that you may have no insurance coverage at all and want to pay cash. You may have a BMI of 40 with no medical problems and only 5-10 pounds to lose prior to surgery. Therefor it would not cost you as much as another patient who has a BMI of 65 who has 40-50 pounds to lose. Or a patient that has to see a cardiologist, have a sleep study or purchase a CPAP machine. So as you can see, Weight Wise and these Dr's can't give a one price fits all and give you the most cost effective price without knowing more about your medical history. Once you have met with them they can give you a very good idea what additional charges may apply to your individual situation. The $9995 price includes the surgeon and his assistants fee, facility fee, and anethesia for a two night uncomplicated stay. However, most patients go home in 24 hours.  Also included in this price is a 1 year follow up with the Dr's no matter how many times you need to be seen. The Dr's will even re-operate on you for free during this one year period for any complications!!!!!! So depending on your personal situation you could actually pay only $9995 and have a gastric sleeve with a 1 year follow up.

I just wanted to let you know that I am self pay. (Weightwise)
I am spending $10,415.00. Out of pocket for the Sleeve
procedure. My insurace covered a small portion of the
post and pre-op packages. There is additional charges other than
the $9995.00. Its about $1200.00 more with no insurance.
Total would have been around $11,200.00. The lap band starts out at $11,995.00 and has some post and pre op  packages as well. Give them a call!!!

Hi Joni,       I don't know Dr B but I heard excellent thing about he and his team but  I can tell you that I'm so grateful that I pick Dr Gorospe and Dr Kirk.  My experience with them has been EXCELLENT and very smooth.  I'm  14 months out and I haven't had one single complication with my band, the aftercare program is great .  Both Dr are always available for questions during the monthly meeting and show great concern about you & your issues.  WHen I had my lapband surgery, they come visit me before and reinsure us that everything will be ok, after surgery, Dr G talked to my husband and let him know how everthing went well and explain some of the after care. Dr Kirk is so funny and caring and always has a good joke or a nice comments to light up your day.      Last november, I had to go to the ER with a galbladder atack and Dr Gorospe and Dr kirk took care inmediately.  They were really busy that date and have several schedule surgeries but they stil did my gallbalder surgery at the end of the day.   I'll not want anyone else be my surgeons.   The nurse staff at Bailey's are so incredible and the hospital itself is a state-of art-facility. All their equipment is brand new and so modern. They treat me like a queen during my stay there. No complains at all.  Whatever you decide, best luck to you and follow your heart! Regards Lis

Run, don't walk, to WeightWise in Edmond. Dr. Walton, Dr. B. and the whole staff are wonderful, caring, dedicated, talented people. A quote from my daughter's -mother-in-law who's a nurse and had the surgery done elsewhere: "Wish I'd had Dr. Walton. I've seen him do things with his hands that I've never seen a surgeon do before."  I trust him and his team completely. They truly care about all of us.  No matter what your choice, choose someone you trust and feel comfortable with.
