Great experience and a great web site
Well I had my first visit yesterday with the nutritionist and nut. Very good experience. I felt comfortable from the time I opened the door and until I left. They even have big chairs for big people. Don't find that very often. Well any way they will be submitting it to insurance so say a big prayer that they accept. Does any one have cigna insurance and know how long it takes them to make a decission? Anyway while I was there my nutritionist gave me a very helpful web site. It is sparkpeople.com. Hope this is helpful. Say a big prayer.

Heather, I WILL say a big prayer for you because I have Cigna and their answer was a resounding, "NO! We do not approve that for anyone because we've had too many problems with WLS patients in the past. Had you done it in 1995, you would've been fine." Well, h***, I wasn't this fat in 1995!!
We just changed to United Healthcare in January. Hubby griped at work about what they did to me, and the company changed carriers. So, dh wanted me to wait till January. I said, "Are you crazy??? We're going private pay."

My husbands company has chose wls as one of there packages. They did not have it on there till this year. As of January 1 it went into effect. What I am facing right now is that they require you to have a 6 month doctor monitored diet within the last 2 years. Which in 2003 I was on one for 8 months. We are going to go ahead and submit it because in the paper work it said if this has been a life long problem that they would go back 5 years and not just two. So thats where I am at right now. I have began a doctor monitored diet which will just set me back 6 months. So prayer is what I need right now. Thanks for the info.

You're welcome, Heather. I didn't want to upset you at all..just wanted to share my experience. Surely things will go through smoothly. They are fairly quick at responding. I will keep you in my prayers. I don't know what the 6 month diet is. Dr. Walton put me on a diet in June for October as my goal date. I did great on the stuff from WeightWise, but had I not had the surgery when I did, I was getting ready to go out and just pig out because I was getting so hungry. Then, after surgery, I really don't get hungry very often.
Maybe they will accept your other previous attempts and you will get approved soon. That was very forward thinking on your husband's company. Great thing.
My doctor basically said cut the carbs and eat lots of protien. She also said to try that Alli diet pill which I did not waste my money on because every pharmacy I talked to just said you get diarrhea and had not heard how people did on it. What kind of a diet did Dr. Walton put you on? That is the Dr. I wanted to go to but Cigna only has Dr Keith and Dr Nelson as a choice. Anyway I need help I cant seem to do it on my own. I have to go back to the Dr next week and I dont think I have lost a pound. So any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks again for the info.

I really like Dr. Nelson-I think you'll be pleased with her.
As for Cigna-if your DH company specifically included the WLS-that should help considerably. Many companies specifically exclude it.
In reality Cigna, Blue Cross, all the insurance companies merely administer whatever plan the company selects-and they play the "bad guy" when they turn you down. Most decision makers (execs) are thin and have trophy wives, so they really don't see the need for WLS and it's one of the first cuts they make.
Heather, you have a big prayer from me on your behalf.
