Hello All! For starts I am very new here and have never posted but have been visiting this board for many weeks.  Each and every one of you are so inspiring to me!  I am currently waiting to ge the call back from Dr. Nelson's office to see if BCBS EPO has approved me.  Because I am so impatient I called BCBC and they said they are "suppost" to say that they don't approve the lap band or any weight loss surgery; however, I have noticed some BCBC people have been approved.  I am no wondering if anyone here has been approved and how difficult was it?  Thanks again for all the inspiring stories! Gayla

Hi Gayla!  My husband works for BCBS, unfortunetly not in a capacity that would help you through faster.  I believe that they do cover, if it's "medically necessary".  Of course you've got layers of nurses and doctors who are the ones who deem if it's medically necessary at an insurance company.  Best of luck to you. Welcome to the board!!!!! I have BCBS of Oklahoma. I didn't have any problem. Just need records of past weight loss attempts. My primary Dr. was very supportive and really helped a lot. I got approved in about a month after the paper work was sent in. Good luck.

hello and welcome to the board. I hope you will learn as much as I have from the wonderful people on here. ask questions if you have them.. the people here a great about trying to answer them.  I used to have bcbs I went through everything they asked me to do and then they tell me that the company had it excluded from the policy. so make sure you check into that. that was a few years ago and only one experience. dont give up! you deserve to be healthy.

Hi Gayla, and welcome to Oklahoma OH.Some BCBS policies do cover WLS. When I called to check on my daughters (BCBS) insurance they told me that WLS was totally excluded from their policy. My advice would be to try and be patient (i know that is hard) and let your Dr's office check into it. Best of Luck to you, Rita

Depends on if that rider is on your policy or excluded, get your SPD from your employer and you will know; an SPD is a summary plan description, you should get a new one every year. AmyBeth

When I had BCBS it was excluded...  But, I do see a LOT of people with various BCBS plans that do get approved... Good luck and nice to meet you!
