I think I've talked about my anemia issues here before and I'm excited to say that they are becoming a thing of the past! I had an infusion on Tuesday, and I am slowly starting to feel stronger and healthier! I solemly swear that I will NEVER let things get that out of hand again. If I do, you all have the responsibility to hunt me down and throw rotten tomatoes at me!!! It's so nice to not SOB at the thought of getting out of bed in the morning!

Are those painful?  I know some kind of infusions I've heard people talk about are painful.  It might be potassium I'm thinking of? Just wondering.....  Glad it is working for you!  Have you only had the one?  Do you have to have any more?

Not really painful after they find a vein! LOL! It took 4 tries! Not sure if I'll need anymore. This was my first.

what is an infusion? I have never heard that before, when my iron is low I have to get that yucky shot in my hip that burns like heck and makes my hip hurt for days. Is the infusion more effective? less painful? Shots dont really bother me but getting the iron makes my stomache flip flop just thinking about it. lol.. I have always had trouble being anemic and the Doc has assured me it wont get any better with rny so I have to work hard on eating right and and yadda yadda before and after surgery. I am making a point to put iron rich foods in my diet. it seems to help along with a multi vit with iron my level was good during the last blood work.

Sherri, Intravenous iron infusion therapy is a particular procedure of iron repletion of iron deficiency anemic patients in which the entire iron dosage is administered in a single dose. Some patients that have had the RNY get an iron deficiency. Taking iron by mouth just sometimes isn't enough because of the malabsorption that goes along with the RNY. IV iron supplementation , rather than a blood transfusion have been used for several years.

It's just an Iron IV. Takes a few hours. It sounded SO scarey to me, but it was so easy.

I'm glad you are feeling better.  I have had issues with low iron prior to RNY and I take a chewable multi w/iron twice a day and take a chewable iron once a day now that I had RNY.  I hope my blood work comes out good when it gets checked.  I hate the way iron does my insides.  Is it me or is the people whom iron makes feel sick that seem to be anemic?  Coincidence???  hmmmmmmm I am also still struggling to get in 64 ounces of water a day. I usually only get about 50. I used to drink twice that much.  I know it's my fast paced job.  I can't stay on top of the sipping at work! GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!!!
