I will back up and explain from the get go.  Last March I had surgery on my back. Massive hernia in my L4-L5 disk in my back.  The dr said I needed a double bilaterial something cant remember the other word.  But he didnt think I could handle it so he was going to just go in and do what he could. I was in alot of pain and non of it made sense I just wanted relief. OMG this was the worst surgery I have ever had.  The pain was so unbareable. I felt good for the first few months after recovery then about August it hit me again.  Dr did another MRI,  now I have detoriation from T11-T12, T12-L1 and bulging again in L4-L5 and L5-S1. and severe narrowing of the left neutral foramen.  OMG that was a slap in the face. I asked if I could try the steroid shots and see if that worked.  NO was there answer along with a detailed why. This was last Dec.  The first week of Dec the dr here faxed in all the into to a better neurosurgeon and I was waiting on a call from that office for a visit.  In the mean time I got my approval for my RNY in Jan. I thought it was my answer from Gid and that I wouldnt have to hae the surgery if I lost all the weight.  Yesterday I went back to the dr to get put on birth control since the dr told me as the weight melts off I could become fertil myrtle.  Dr asked me what Dr Hann had did or decided. I told them I havent heard from them. And that since I just had the RNY I would prefer to wait and see if I still needed it after I lost my weight.  I seen the PA yesterday and she told me that she didnt think it could wait but she would talk to the dr and give me a call today. She said that if the narrowing continues it can expose my spinal cord.   They called today and this CANNOT wait.  I just cried and I cant stop!!!! I dont want to go through backsurgery again.  But I have no choice, I want to just roll over and give up.  Three surgerys in less then a year and a half is unbareable.  I feel so helpless and lost!!!!!  I have a good job and I dont want them to give up on me or replace me because of the surgeries. I am so scared and confused at the same time.  If you believe in prayer like I do would you please keep this in your prayers.   Thanks for listening.

Sassy, I am praying for you.  I had major orthopedic surgery last year a few months before I had my lap band.

I see the hand of God in your situation-if you had known about the upcoming back surgery, you might not have had the RNY-this way your weight loss has started and will continue, aiding your healing.

If possible, look into FMLA-it's family medical leave, and will protect your job while you heal.  You are in for a rough year, physcially and mentally, but looking at it from a year out now, I know that the WLS helped the healing of my foot, which wasn't doing well at all before the surgery.  I think the same will be true of your back.

Tell us how we can help you and boost your spirits.

Sassy - hang in there!!  I had surgery on L5-S1 last August and a month later was in the hospital for a gastric bleeding ulcer!  That trip was longer than the back surgery!  We are with you and whatever has to be done, it will be done with the grace of God in your surgeon's hands.  BIG HUGS!!!! R

Maybe this one wont be as bad as the last one. If God leads you to it, he will see you through it. Be sure and use your FMLA. It is good for 12 weeks. When you get all this behind you, you should be good to go. Hang in there, it's gonna all be okay. ((((((((((HUGS)))))))))

Hang in there Sassy.  You are a stronger than you think and you will get through this.  You're in my prayers.  Focus on God and He will see you through this as He has for the other surgeries you have had recently.  These trials only make us stronger and increase our faith for our Lord.  Let us know how you are doing.
