I am fairly new here. I tried 3 years ago to get the lap band surgery done, but I lived in AR then and blue cross rejected me. I went through everything up til the approval. Now, I am trying again. I posted a couple weeks ago asking about the lap band. It has seemed like the surgery I want because I am not keen on having the gastric bypass and things rearranged. But I was told that if I wanted to lose more than 100lbs, the lap band was not the way to go... then some people told me they had lost over 100lbs..  Okay, here is the thing.. I am 32, been married for 5 months now and I still want to have kids. I read that the lap band has to be deflated if I have a baby.. BUT I cannot have one til I lose some weight.. now I have tried that on my own and never succeed over 20lbs.. I don't want to have complications during my pregnancy..  So, what I am asking is, can you all give me some advice about having a baby after your surgery??? Maybe this will help me..  thanks so much pauline

I choose lap band surgery and I had 110Lbs to lose but a friend who had lap band surgery 3 months before I did was almost 200 Lbs overweight and he has done great, as far as having babies I think the doctors like you to wait at least 18 months before getting pregnant, I would suggest going to one of the support group meetings and talk to people and I'm sure you'll find someone who has been pregnant after surgery. Good luck Nana

Pauline, there is a lady on the main Lap Band Forum named amyc that is having a baby on February 18th and she would be able to give you lots of information on her pregnancy I'm sure.  I have heard the dr's say at least 18 months after your surgery before getting pregnant, but I've heard of some of the ladies on the boards admit that they got pregnant before the 18 months and did fine.  From what I gather they do unfill you when your pregnant so that you can have enough nourishment for the baby and when you have delivered then they will go in and start your fills back over.  Please check with your dr to make sure.  From what I gather dr's are different in their practices in different areas of the country.  Good Luck.

Hi Pauline

I had the lap band surgery about one year ago. It is the best decision that I'd made ever!! I had lost 85 pounds as of today. I'm trying to conceive my first child now.  Dr Gorospe suggest to wait  at least 9 months before getting pregnant  with the lap band,  and 18 months with the Gastric bypass.   Some women will need their bands deflated during the pregnancy but others can keep their fluid  level, it will depend on your body and your OB' GYn. The advantage of the band is that it will be there for you to help you to lose the post-pregnancy weight.    THere is also a post pregnacy forum: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/postop_pregnancy/  post your question there and I'm sure that you will get a lot of responses of women that are pregnant right now  Hope this help!   Lis
