Hello all, Its been a while but I'm still kinda new, so please bear with me. After going to the seminars for both Dr. Broussard & Dr. Gorospe, I have decided to go with dr. Broussard in edmond, ok  rather then dr. gorospe here in Tulsa.  I had my consultation with Dr. Broussard on Jan. 31st. I really like him, he's very personable and made me feel very comfortable. Anyways, I know its only the 1st step and I know it takes a while to get any info. processed by insurance and all but I cannot stand the wait to see if I can even get pre approved or have to try to self pay. I have all the needed medical information and my PCP is in full support of me having the RNY but I'm still quite anxious about getting approval. Oh and Dr. Broussard wants me to loose 17lbs. before having the surgery, any suggestions on how to really get this done. I don't drink soda, I do exercise at least 3x's a week and I watch what I eat. The most I've lost on my own previously is 18lbs. and that was verrrrrrry hard so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Porcelina: Your Weightwise dietitian would have given you a diet to follow which should get you down to what you need to be at for surgery.  Chris and Jessica are both great dietitians and if you have any questions you should definitely call them for help.   The entire program is a life saving multi-disciplinary program with a great success rate!  You cannot be in better hands!!   Welcome to the losers bench!! Hi, Did you happen to meet with Chris or Jessica the dieticians while you were at weight wise? They have numerous diets to choose from to best meet your needs. Hey great choice by the way. I am a Registered Respiratory Therapist at the hospital. I had the lap RNY in December. You will love it here. Anyway, Chris is my dietician and on my first visit she gave me a diet, and I pretty much went by that(with a few exceptions****il surgery. I had six months to do it in though, so that made it somewhat easier. Good Luck and if I can be of any help, please let me know.

Welcome to the board.

Focus on making good food choices.  If you are having WLS "watching what you eat" isn't working for you.  Get a list of what you can have from your doctor.  I'm a proponent of making changes pre surgery that will set you up for success after sugery-and that is learning to make healthy choices.  Several people on this board have been successful with WW as a pre diet-Wynotha is a great example.

I don't know Dr. B, but I would be he wants you to lose 17 pounds in a healthy responsible way so that you are in good shape going in to the surgery.

I'm glad your PCP is supporting you-that is a huge plus and makes the process a lot smoother.

Remember, the pre diet is hard, but once you have your surgery, you will have a tool to help you get to goal.

Dr. B was my doctor! I had RNY on 12/27 and my hubby had it on 1/30.  We love Dr. B.   We had to lose 30 and 45 pounds.  What we did was cut out ALL bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, corn, sugar and soda.  It took us 3 months to lose our weight. I really didn't think I could do it but we were both so determined.  I have never lost that much weight that fast!  We got a diet from Chris the dietician and rarely cheated.  (LOVE Chris too!!)  We didn't exercise as much as we should have...but we did it.  You'd be amazed at what you can do!!!Best of luck to you! You picked a great doctor. You won't be disappointed.  He really knows what he is doing.
