I had to get an IVC Filter put it..... It was okay. Its weird being awake during the surgery. Im glad it went fast though! How many of you had to get an ivc filter? If you don't know what it is look it up on wikipedia.org.

Do you have a history of blood clots? Is it a greenfield filter? So sorry you had to go through that, but it 's certainly better than the alternative. I have had several patient's that needed them prior to surgery. Best of Luck

I didn't have to have the filter, glad that procedure is over for you!  Keep motivated by coming to the board and keeping yourself busy - I'll be waiting for you on the bench!

Girl, that's a little scary to be awake!  But you are better off to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it!  Good luck.

Dr Gorospe told me they could put mine in the morning of my surgery cause I would already have an iv going that way anyways.

The doctor told me that they couldn't do it the day of surgery. I have to get it taken out after like 2 months or so. I like being awake during surgery. I wish i could stay awake for the bypass but its not possible! I just like watching things like that. Yea its a greenfield filter. i dont have a history of blood clots but the doctor just recommended it since my insurance covers everything. I can't wait til Tuesday!!!

Finally i'm almost healthy again. LOVE IT.

I like watching surgeries too...  but NOT my own!!  I about passed out last month when I cut my finger! I have watched several RNY surgeries online.  It is fun!  At least I know what they will be doing to me!

Yeah Dr Gorospe said he COULD take it out later but he was like "why?".  He described it like a parachute in your airplane.  You may never need it but its nice to know its there.

I had a IVC filter placed. I am over 6 months out and I have chose not to remove it. If I am at risk for clots why would I want to take it out knowing that I want to have more surgery. (Tummy tuck ect.) I am glad you did well with the procedure I felt mine was terrible.  Tressa
