Crickett must have been the doctors pet!! haha...kidding! I think that is MY position!!
I had to do it, and just thinking about it almost made me gag, but I knew it was part of the process and a necessary evil. It was the WALK to Xray I was a little shaky with! We got to walk it - yeah - at FBH it isn't very far but when you are less than 24 hrs out of surgery it seems like miles!!
They used to put flavors in that stuff but they said they had to stop because so many people were allergic to things. It really isn't that bad. Of course, Drs Walton & Broussard don't (normally) put in drains or caths either, so I think sometimes we get off easier than some other programs. And at FBH the RNY patients get the happy little pain ball ..... woohoo!

THE ABILITY TO CONTINUE IN THE PRESENCE OF FEAR.
My surgeon does a leak test during surgery. I believe he does a test where he fills the abdomen with liquid then fills the stomach with air and if there are any bubbles then there's a leak. The leak can be fixed before you leave the OR. I didn't have any drains but I did have a catheter which was removed the next morning. I also had a central line and I wonder if anyone else had one. It was taped with clear plastic tape that caused blisters on my skin.
Yeah, Pam... I asked Dr. K last week when I saw him if I would have to do the swallow test and he said he never does it. You said exactly what he said he does (fills with water & air) he also said that he never leaves drains in. I asked about those two things specifically.
I don't know about the central line?? Maybe Michelle knows?
