I am issuing a challenge to our Okie Forum - I am putting together a team of sorts to participate in the OKC Memorial Marathon - 5k walk/run. I have added the information below. If you have any questions, please let me know and I will try to get an answer to you. I have not yet built the team on the marathon pages yet, but will get that done shortly. I think that as WLS patients, we should always look to challenge ourselves and push ourselves to Celebrate Life! Since we have seen both sides of the life story - the before and after of our journey - we should continue to grow and help others as well. This information is also over on the forum that Tonja has running. I hope others will join me in this race. I'm not RUNNING guys - I'm walking!! My poor old knees wouldn't make it if they were being pounded into the ground!! This challenge has been inspired by the effort by OKC Mayor Mick Cornett's challenge to the city - www.thiscityisgoingonadiet.com. You should go there and see what is happening and register to track your weight loss efforts as well!! Good Luck!

Did I read it correctly that they have a 5k marathon walk thats only $25 and comes with a t-shrit and goody bag or do you have to pay the $75.00?? I would be interested in the Memorial Marathon Walk....

Thanks to all of you who have expressed interest! As a clarification, the fee is $25.00 for the 5k if you register before Mar 31. $30.00 after that. After meeting with a few of our board members from this Okie forum and discussing - we have come up with a name for our team. I am getting ready to log in and register myself and the team right now. The team now is going to be (drumroll please!) FRIENDS FOR LIFE!!!! I look at my new life as something that has brought me a huge amount of new friends and since I actually have a LIFE to live for that is a healthy one, well...you get the picture!! As I mentioned before, you do NOT have to be a bariatric patient to join our team! I want to encourage those of us in the pre, post, etc but also those of our "family" who have encouraged and supported us. I also want to encourage you to remember the reason for the OKC Memorial Marathon event as well. We can walk for our lives because 168 (or 169 depending on how you look at things) of our fellow citizens had the opportunity to enjoy life stripped from them. So, back to regular programming! I hope you all take this challenge and run (walk) with it towards new and never ending LIFE!! RNR
