How was your seminar?  Wasn't it today? Do you have anything you need to do now to get started on pre-op testing?

It went pretty good.  I was tired as hell after waking up at 4 am and not being able to go back to sleep.  They told us to be there at 8 am but didnt start until about 8:30.  Then he talked for about 2 hours.  My mom and I were both ready to go cause it was warm in there, and gosh so many people.  He did give some interesting info that he has decided just within the last 2 weeks, to start doing gastric sleeve as well.  He has not performed one yet but said he is opening it up to his patients now as an option.  Not sure if thats what I would want to do instead of RNY though.  I am going to really talk to him about them both when my appointment with him is, they said they would call me to schedule it sometime within the next 7-10 days.

Isn't it amazing how many people are at the seminar!  It was packed when I went also.  I got a call the following week to schedule appt. I was nice to meet you at the support meeting last nite.  I don't think I would have chose to have gastric sleeve even if it were an option for me at the time.  I need the added incentive of 'dumping' if I eat the wrong things to make sure I stay on track! How you get through all your preop appts quickly and get a quick surgery date.  I hear it goes pretty fast for self-pays.  Best Wishes.

I was surprised at the number of people at the Gorospe seminar I went to also!

Yeah thats the third one I have been to over the 3-4 years I have researched...one time I went as a guest for someone else.   The sad thing is a lot of those people who were there may never have the surgery.  Yes it was nice to meet you and your daughter last night and to also meet CareBear.  All 3 of you are very nice folks and I look forward to seeing you more in the future and striking up long time friendships.  The support group left me feeling so good that so many people come together to share their experiences and offer support to each other, that will mean a lot post-op.

OMG!! My DH and myself also went to that seminar!  Wow! I thought that there were a lot of people there. I did not expect such a crowd. I am also interested in having the gastric sleeve, I have been doing a lot of reading about it.

I remember seeing you there (I am really good with faces).  I talked a little bit with Dr Gorospe at the monthly meeting Monday night and he looked me up and down and said I would be best with RNY.  He said he is offfering the sleeve but he wants all patients to know that the majority of the stomach is removed and you dont get it back, it goes in file #13.  Plus its irreversible and not as fast and as much of a weight loss as RNY.  The good sides to it are you dont have the vitamin deficiencies and the dumping syndrome.  I am going to go with the RNY.  Have you gotten a call from them yet?

I have not gotten a call yet. Have you? I expect it may take a bit longer than 7-10 days to hear from the office.

I'm pretty sure I got my call within a week from Gorospe's office!  And then, my appointment date was within a couple weeks of that.  I'm sure I blogged about it back in Sept or so.

I have  come so close so many times over only to be shot down for so many reasons. My insurance at work dropped it and put wls on the exclusion list, I had money saved up and was booking my date to go self pay and I had to put my savings into a roof for my home, and to help my daughter after she had a car wreck. At this point being a self pay, I am planning to borrow against my 401 k at work to cover it.

I am still leaning towards the gastric sleeve since  the positives are more attractive to me. Yes, there is a large percentage of the stomach is removed and 86'd, however the pylori and intestines remain intact and the stomach that produces the hormone ghreniln(?) is  removed, no hunger producing hormone no problem. There are about 50 to 100 positive reasons that I can rationalize the sleeve over the rny  for myself.
