I love cottage cheese but the fat free made me a little queezy.  Maybe I should go with low fat instead???

I swore off chicken but found I can eat the Swansons chicken breast in a can (70 calories, 12 grams of protien) without any problem.  Dinner last night was a can of chicken, 2 0z of goat cheese, melted and a spoonful of apricot/ginger mustard....it tasted like some kind of wonderful dip-but I didn't have anything to dip into it so I ate it with a spoon.

If you don't like goat cheese, some swiss cheese, mozzarella or even ricotta would would well.

I'm really surprised that he would be wanting you to eat something like that this soon after surgery. He didn't do my surgery, but I've talked to him at length and it seems like he's jumped on the "tell em they can do whatever they want and long as I can get their money" band wagon.". Most Dr.s would still have you on a fairly bland and mushy diet. I would really reccomend that you spend a few weeks on things like cottage cheese, cream soups, refried beans, etc....

Well I can't say that I think he's the greatest Dr.  I've found him to be rushed and only half listen to what I'm saying.  Which is EXACTLY the opposite of what everyone else has to say about him.  I'm the only voice crying out in the crowd it seems when it comes to the type of care I've gotten.   I've started to try and take cues from everyone else a little on what to try next.  I don't even have another appt with him until March.   I did go ahead with the taco meat tonight, but I put it in the blender first until it was almost a paste.  Then I mixed it with refried beans and homemade cheese dip.  It was almost like a cheese soup.  It went down very well and my pouch seems quite happy.   I think I'm just going to have to develop a stronger relationship with my food processor for a while.   As far as Dr W goes, his credentials are great.  His history is great.  I'm not impressed with his people skills.  He really doesn't seem to listen when people have a concern.  I wonder if I'm just the "good child" who doesn't get any attention because I'm not in trouble???  If that makes sense.   I was very surprised at the progression of diet he's offered me, and others, when I see the guidelines everyone else on the board has.

I am so glad for you that your pouchy is feeling better.. since I am pre-op I dont have any answers for you.. however I do have a "sensitive" stomache.. and to me its hard to think of eating chili after any surgery. but then I am not a doctor. something I have learned from this board is a very important message.. chew chew chew.. and I have actually been doing that so that i get used to it.. first off it helps me eat less.. i am not a patient person.. so I give up finishing my plate way before Its cleared. second with my sensitive tummy... makes it alot easier coming back up... I know that sounds gross..

Merry Christmas and a “Hello” from the Lurker….

I am surprised about the talk of Dr Warnock; I had my surgery in April with no problems. As a matter of fact, I found the surgery a snap, no pain what so ever, but of course we all have a different pain tolerance.

I do remember the hospital staff as being some of the best I have ever meet, even after discharge the supervisor RN told me to call her at anytime if I have any concerns. The staff at the Rathbuger house was wonderful also….they even offered my husband some dinner….god, I hated the binder, but then again it was a god send to put it on after I had it of for a while….after all, that is the price that come with the surgery….it is a life change after all

I have now developed an Ulcer, not necessary from the surgery, but again after messing around with my “regular” doctor finally went to Dr Warnock and it only took him a second to make the diagnoses, followed up with a scope and sure enough, there was the ulcer…..now did I spend hours talked to the doctor about it, heck no;

he said what needed to be done, a hug and send me on his way….just the way I like it….

no long hours of talking…. but I have never felt rushed or ignored by him or his staff, as a matter of fact, regarding my Ulcer meds that I had a question on, Patty his nurse didn’t called me back till 6:30 pm…..and then put the good doctor on the phone himself, and he took his time listening and explaining at that time of the day, I was floored about his caring attitude….

but then again….everybody is different and has different needs

Regarding the food, I remember that he encouraged people “to try” small amounts of what he calls taco meat (hamburger meat for the rest of us) ha-ha…..

He has been very clear, at least to me of what to eat and what not to eat …. Scallops, tortillas were not on my list so soon after surgery, but then again, maybe that has changed…

As for the different foods, again, he explained to me “to try” certain foods in of course very small amounts.

Even today, 8 month later I have found out that there is food I have eaten before will not sit well the next time……

I have spoken with a lot of people who had the surgery a couple of years out and found that they have the same issue, even years after the surgery…..I guess we are all different….

Sooooooooo, just putting in my 5 cents worth and was thinking that maybe you are just eating too much too soon and too many different things all at once…..anyways, I hope everybody is having a great day and is not spending it on the computer….I have a good excuse because I am working….I am down to 134…..YEAH…………

Happy Holidays to all

Beef is one of the hardest things for our body to digest-you are putting a big strain on your system by eating it at this point in your recovery.  Dairy can be a problem as well if you have a tendency towards any intolerance.

If it were me, I'd be on a soft, bland diet, supplementing my protein needs with easily digestable protien supplements and I would only introduce one new food at a time to see how that food is tolerated.

Not knocking anyone here, just stating what I would do.

I agree, his nutritionist gave us an example to treat our pouch like a baby, one new food at a time and see how it works, if it didn’t, give it a rest and try again a couple of weeks later….. sorry my post's always have so long spaces in it.....lol

Love the doggy on your post.  What a cutie.  And congratulations about your weight loss!  That's fantastic.

I used the baby food model as my guideline for reintroducing food too.
