It happened

Tonight I ate the same chili I ate twice yesterday.  I remember thinking yesterday that the meat was a bit dry despite being in a soupy chili and that it hit my pouch pretty hard.  BUT it passed and was fine, yesterday.  Tonight I was in agony.  I only ate 3 bites.  I chewed and chewed, but it hit my pouch like a ton of bricks.  It actually felt like something trying to fight it's way back out of my pouch.  I couldn't throw it up either.  It took an hour and a half.  I couldn't drink.  I constantly belched, but was still in pain with a capital P.  Finally I hocked up a bunch of foam and the pain subsided.   Anyhow, there will be no more ground turkey for me!  My pouch is still sore and tender from that experience. I'm actually a little leary of even trying taco meat now.  It's like I'm ground meat paranoid!

Poor baby.. I guess thats how you learn what you can eat and what you cant. I feel for you and I worry about the agony, as you put it, after eating. I also wander about things that I am supposed to eat after surgery that I can not stomache now.. like fish..  I know its good for you but I can not stand the taste or smell of it.. never have been able to. Then there is beans.. I love beans but I am bloated and gassy for days after eating even a little bit.... I am afraid it will be worse after surgery.

I'm just shocked that your doctor is allowing you to have solids this early in the game.  Hang in there and take it easy! Tonja

Sorry-that sucks doesn't it.  Are you 100 percent sure it's ok for you to eat meat at this point?

I am so sorry.  I havn't had the guts to try to much yet, and have not tried turkey yet.  I am having lots of eggs and cheese right now.

When food hits your stomach does it almost hurt?  Like a heaviness, then subsides almost immediately???

It really depends on what it is and how well I have chewed.  I still can only drin**** water, warm water hits like that.  It is a learning curve, I find things that worked yesterday may not work today.  So I have learned to take each day as its very own, and to still chew chew chew and take things slow each time I eat.

Yep.  He's given me the go ahead to have pretty much anything except bread, rice, pasta, pork, and beef (except ground).  Salads I've been told I can try in about a week.  There was talk in our NUT class about the M&M diet (moist and mushy), but he didn't say anything about it.  He did say moist would be the easiest.  BUT he actually encouraged me to try chili in particular.   This morning I'm having a scrambled egg.  I'm not sure what I'll be eating from now on.  I'm definitely gun shy now.   The scallops sat fantastic though.  They're so soft though.  I may stick with them for a while.   I'm fortunate that I've always loved fish and seafood.  That tends to be very moist.   I'm just not a carb person, never have been.  I'm sick to death of mashed potatoes and refried beans. Any suggestions on what to try next??????

he even suggested turkey bacon.  I don't know that there's any way I could chew that down to liquid like I need to.

I find tuna very satisfying.  As for the chili, right now I still blend it to break up the meat, haven't had any problems that way.  I am using canned chili (hormel) meat only and no beans. Have you tried cottage cheese with your scambled eggs?  I love it.
