Surgery question- TMI maybe
I don't really know how to answer your question... But my guess is this:
I wouldn't think that it would matter if you were on your period or not, but I doubt they would want you to have a tampon in. Not because of the foley, but because of toxic shock syndrome. I would think that they would have a pad under you. Maybe even those disposable mesh panties to hold it in place.
I'd say ask your surgeon!
Wouldn't you know I have an answer for this one too!!! I got my monthly 2 days before surgery. I had to wear a pad, but no underwear of any sort. When I asked the nurse she said "Oh honey your thighs will hold it in place." So there I sat waiting for surgery for 6 hours with my damn thighs holding this pad in place. They also put one of those large pads across the bed to protect the sheets or bed or whatever. It was a pain, but then only 1 day after surgery my cycle was done so I didn't have to deal with it for very long. The recovery nurse said the surgery would probably bring on my monthly anyway, so I guess they deal with it lots.
When I had my hysterectomy several years ago, I started my period. It thought it was going to have the last laugh - boy did I set that straight.
At any rate, NO, you will not be using any tampons.
