Home from hospital...
Hello there everyone! I had my surgery the morning of the 6th. I was Dr W's first patient of the day. I woke up feeling like 250lbs of road kill with bloody nose and cruddy throat from intubation. I'm cut from sternum to belly button. (will try to post picture tomorrow) Day 2 was heck! I hurt from head to toe. If I went to sleep, then I didn't push the pain button and the pain would creep up on me. Then I was encouraged to cough and breath. This part was especially torture, but well worth it. Day 3 I felt much better, but still VERY sore. Burps were painful but a blessing. Then they let me out of the hospital to the Rathgerber house. That night I finally started passing gas. It's actually a very joyus occassion. It means your belly is no longer a budda belly and the pain starts to subside. Trying to sleep at the Rathgerber house was not good though. The beds are like rocks and there's nothing to hold onto to help lower and raise yourself. I was glad to be released. I am now at home. I'm only on clear liquids. Tomorrow I'll be allowed broth and jello, too. So far so good. I'll be glad when the gas is completely gone though. I'm so sore from it. I think gas has been the cause of most of my pain and discomfort. I do feel that feeling people compain is hunger. I know it's not hunger though. My stomach empties quickly and I don't think it's used to that empty feeling. I'd love to have a bite of something but I'm perfectly content to wait until it's time. Tomorrow I get jello and broth and maybe nibbles of a saltine. That's good. I have no desire to rush things.
Anyhow, I'm pretty tired so I'll be posting more as I can.
Thanks everyone!

Thanks for the well wishes everyone!
Yep, I knew it would be open going into it. My surgeon only does open, but I can say that those who didn't have to have their gallbladder out at the time of surgery had a slightly smaller incision than I did. He always removes the gallbladder if you haven't already had it out.
Anyhow, I'm sorry I didn't call anyone. The truth is that I got so very little sleep in the hospital that I just didn't feel up to it. They were always waking me to cough or walk or do breathing exercises. It was really annoying. I would get up and walk and walk, pee, finally climb back in the bed...then it would take me 10 minutes to come down from the activity to go to sleep. In 15 or less they were comming in to wake me to start all over again. I was so exhausted all the time I could fall asleep mid-sentence. I know everything has a purpose, but so does REST. It was crazy. The beds at the house were so uncomfortable. I couldn't wait to get home so I could sleep and be comfortable. Guess what??? I took a nap and my husband came in and woke me after 30 minutes to WALK. I coulda snapped his head off. *LOL* I told him I will walk every few minutes while I'm awake but do not wake me again.
I feel pretty good. I'm just so worn out. I'd love something that wasn't sweet right now, too. I'm really looking forward to the warm broth tomorrow (I think it's tomorrow).
I'm having a hard time getting my liquids down. I've only had about 16oz today and then 2 sugar free popsicles. I'm looking forward to my shower tonight and fresh jammies in my fresh bed.
I am having some achyness throughout my body though. Just twinges here and there. There's always the fear of blood clots. My stomach is ok. It's sore but getting much much better. I've put a pillow over it most the day so the girls could hug me. My son is afraid to touch me since I showed him. He'll only rub my arm and kiss my cheek. I've already caught the hubby ogling my boobs. He's such a man! Here I am gutted and all he can see is the no bra under the white Tshirt. *LOL* I had to put a hoodie over it.
I call Dr W tomorrow to set up my follow-up for the 17th. He'll take out my 4 remaining staples then. Hopefully, I'll also be ready to take that next step with my dietary needs. Until then I have a paper outlining what I'm to do day by day.
I started my nexium today. It's ok unless you acidentally crunch the little balls in the suspension. Those are bitter bitter bitter! It is hard to get the whole tablespoon down though.
I haven't had need of anything for pain. Of course my pain patch runs out tomorrow so maybe I'm all full of overconfidence. We'll see.
I can advise DO NO****CH STAND-UP COMEDY right away. Laughter may be "the best medicine" but it hurts like heck!!! It's also, in my case, followed by a long bout of coughing which also hurts very much bad.
I met some wonderful people in Dr W's office that went through the process with me. It was both comforting and disconcerting that he had somewhere around 6 surgeries the morning he did mine. I don't know how I could have stuck to the rules without my granny with me though. Not allowed to even bend over for 2 weeks! Dr W says if you drop something, leave it! This means I can't reach my own feet to strap on my leg brace. I have to have help. I can, however, dress myself except for socks, shoes, and brace. You'd be surprised how much you drop on a daily basis though!
Also, saline nasal spray...ask for some right away after you wake. Blowing the shnoze is not fun, but especially not so when your sinuses are clogged with scabs and blood from tubes. Saline nasal spray is wonderful. Bring your own soft tissues!!! Hospital ones are too small and are like sandpaper! I brought, but did not use my own shampoo and body wash. At that point cutting out steps in your bathing is a good idea and no one really cares how soft and manageable your hair is. I used the all in one hair and body wash they provided. Worked fine and less hassle.
Oh well, that's enough for now. It's time to walk again. *LOL*
I'll write more later!
