Hi to all.  I am 33 and have been researching bariatric surgery for right about 3 years.  I have been lookingat having the surgery done by Dr. Gorospe and have been to a couple of his conferences and a Monday night meeting at Union.  I am opening myself up here to all suggestions, warnings, help, everything from other members.  Thanks and I hope to make many good friends in the years to come on this site.  God Bless

Welcome and good luck on your journey, I read everything I could get my hands on for 2yrs and talked to as many people as would talk to me about weight loss surgery, everyone I've come in contact with has had nothing but good things to say, talked to 4 or 5 doctors and finally got off my behind and took the steps to get my life back, everyone here is very helpful and will do their very best to answer your questions, again good luck with your journey. Welcome, nice to have you here!  I'm trying to get all of my appointments out of the way so I can have my initial visit with my surgeon.  I hope to have surgery by mid March. I'm 35 (almost 36) and have been researching RNY for 5 years.  Initially, I wasn't researching for me though.  I was looking into it with my sister who is almost 5 years out and doing very well. I went to the informational seminar for Dr. Katsis in November and hope to have my first visit with him the first or second week of February.  (Dr. Gorospe isn't in my insurance network) I'm trying to keep a detailed blog about my journey if you want to check it out.  I PROMISE my profile won't BLIND you with Crimson Red!!  (just kidding)  I see you're a Cowboy fan!! Welcome! My sage advice is look at the lifestyle requirements "after surgery" and see which one fits how you want to live and what you believe you'll be able to sustain.  Post Op is where you will spend the rest of your life-so post op life is an important question to ask. Exercise and water are going to be a vital part of post op life and working on those now can give you a leg up before surgery.

Thanks for the warm welcomes.  I live near the river so I am very anxious to get back to riding a bike along the river post op.  I dont work or have insurance right now due to the weigh and horrible sleep apnia literally controlling my life.  I lost my last job due to passing out from sleep exhaustion, while on the phone with a customer *YIKES*  I have also got a ticket for "nodding off" and swerving around like a druk on the road.  Scary stuff.  I do have the financial backing to cover all the surgery and other costs thank God.  I am also looking into going to a place post op in North Carolina called Structure House.  Has anyone heard of this and/or been there?

I am a patient of Dr Gorospe's, just had my RNY on 11/26/07 and doing great. Still on liquids, he requires this for 2 weeks following surgery to allow the new pouch to heal. But it is not a problem, cause I am not hungry in the same way I would have been prior to surgery.  Sure, I am waiting to advance to next stage, cause I want to see how my new stomach handles soft foods. I felt very safe in Dr Gorospe's hands.

Ask any questions you like, be glad to answer.

Hi, Dr. G was my doctor and you are in good hands.  The support meetings are great!  I looked in RNY for 2 years before I decided.  I had my surgery on 7/25/07 and I have lost 80 pounds so far.  I feel great and have had no problems.   Good luck!  Their is a support meeting next Monday at Bailey Medical in Owasso.

I was wondering if it (thesupport meetings) had also moved to the new hospital.  I was just up there a couple of days ago getting the prices listed out so I could present them to my dad.   Man is that a nice new place.   I will definately look at making it to that meeting.  What time does it start?
