Welcome!  For some of us it goes lightning quick.  Others have to really work the system to get this process going. I'm in the 10 day pre-op liquid diet phase.  It only took me 1 visit to my PCM and 1 visit so far to my surgeon to do this.  I have 1 more visit with my surgeon the day before surgery.  For some, they have years of visits and documentation and psych evals...jumping through a lot of hoops.   Anyhow, I'm glad the process is going smoothly for you.  Keep us posted.

Beginning 265/surgery 255/goal 140/ low 122/ current 158!!!

Hello Sarah, I too am new to this process.  I just attended the seminar.  I've scheduled my appt with my PCM to get the referral (he previously told me he would refer me).  I'm so anxious to get this ball rolling.  I have Tricare Prime, so if someone has experience with that, let me know. Good luck to you Sarah!!!! Sharon Christensen

I live in harrah, OKlahoma. I also have tricare prime and have to go through Tinker to get all my documentation. Just stay on top of it. Gornichec said that Tricare almost always pays for the sugery as long as you qualify with 100 or more pounds to lose and a co-morbidity like high blood pressure or diabetes or something like that. Dont worry about them approving. Im not, i just hope that all my tests come back good. Doing the sleep study on Saturday and have to call Utah to get one more year of Obesity History and i think im done. (hopefully)

Thanks for the information.  Keep me informed about how things are going.  I had a sleep study back in July.  No sleep apnea....but lots of waking up and snoring. Good luck.

I'm still getting all of my pre-op testing done and then I will get to see the surgeon.  This has been / will be the longest 6 months of my life!   I went to my informational seminar Nov 5, have had my cardio tests done and my sleep study done.   Still yet to do:  another sleep study to be fit for CPAP (Dec 29), another cardio visit for test results (Dec 13), pulmunologist appointment (Jan 3), and Psych eval (Jan 31).  THEN after all of those results are sent to Dr. Katsis, they will let me have an appointment with him. In the meantime, I'm also seeing my PCP monthly.

I'm doing my sleep study Saturday. I Don't think it will go badly. I have never been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea. I dont wake up with headaches or anything, i sleep rather well when i actually get to sleep. They sure do stretch your dates out dont you? Good luck with getting it all done. He still says i can have mine done by the end of the year. For some odd reason i already talked to the Surgeon. We had an appointment last week. He says he has only done 5 gastric bypasses on people under 21 but i dont mind. I am 20 and need it so badly its not funny.

In fact i have a question for everyone. I am "borderline" diabetic and this past week my legs hurt SOOO badly and swell. I am almost certain this is full blown diabetes... Does this sound like it could be? Not too worried, since most people clear that kind of stuff up after surgery,.
