I am having a vertical sleeve gastrectomy  in december.  Has anyone had this done?  If yes, how are you doing with it?   Anything major I need to know about the surgery and/or recovery time that the dr would not think to tell me?   Thanks for your support......

I wanted to wish you luck.  I think that is a fairly new procedure in Oklahoma-but we are all here to support you!

Yes, I had VSG 11/7/07!  Dr. Walton was also my surgeon, he is wonderful.  I am 3 wks out & have lost 27lbs!!!!!!  The surgery is not as bad as I had expected.  The hospital is so relaxing & the nurses will take such good care of you!  I am so glad I decided on this option.  It is a perfect fit for me.  My only advice is to listen to your dietician.

Do either of you happen to know how many of those procedures he has done?  I don't know much about the procedure at all.  I haven't really studied up on it since I didn't think it was an option for me.

I was one of his very first patients.  However exciting it was, I was worried.  But, I was comforted in that he is one of the best laproscopic surgeons in OK.  (that is pretty well known among other surgeons).  Also, it is rather a simple surgery w/ low risks (less complications than the lapband because there is no foreign object inside your body, etc...)  Read, read & read to make the right decision for you!!
