OT: Stupid laboratory error
Two weeks ago, I had blood drawn for a genetic test. I had to get clearance so I could start taking new medication for my Crohn's. Pretty important for this to happen, as my old meds just aren't working like they used to.
Well, today I get a call from the doctor. Although they ordered the correct lab (so they say), the lab performed the wrong test on the blood they drew. I was told "Don't worry, we won't make you pay for them to redo it". I'm thinkin "Damn straight!"
Nurse apologized over and over stating it wasn't their error, but that of the lab. She apologized for the inconvenience because now I have to get off work early to make it to the lab before they close...not to mention getting more blood drawn.
However, my biggest hang-up is that now I have to wait another two weeks for the results before I'll find out whether I can take this new medication. So, my treatment has to be put on hold. That's the part that's most infuriating.
Silver lining? Whatever it was that they DID test me for came back okay...although I don't know what it was.
My husband suffered with ulcerative colitis for three years and finally had surgery in 91. He got down to about 125 lbs.---he was skin and bones. He's been doing fine since the surgery---he plays golf, rides his motorcycle, does all the yardwork, etc. He's had a few intestinal blockages since then, and had to be hospitalized a couple of times but hasn't had to have more surgery.
Hope your new medication works well for you if you get clearance.
