Help with wls friendly pcp in Tulsa
It has been so long since I went to the doctor, probably 7 years or more and am in need of a PCP for the physician supervised diet portion of getting approved. The last time I went to a doctor was actually in July of this year, but it had been 7 years since seeing a doctor, and was treated so poorly because of my weight (which is why I stopped going in the first place) that I left her office in tears. I am so afraid of that happening again, or wasting my time, money and energy trying to find a doc that supports wls (rny) only to find that the doc I have chosen is not bariatric friendly. I will be using Dr. Gorospe as my surgeon when the time comes, and nearly any doctor is covered under my insurance, but it does require at least 1 six mo physician supervised diet. I have already called Dr. Gorospe's office, and they don't have a list of pcp's at this time, and they are busy moving to the Owasso office today, so that was not much help. If anyone knows of any bariatric fat friendly docs and are willing to share, please let me know.
I have CIGNA thru Echostar, it covers any doc, and it covers the surgery as long as it is deemed medically necessary, and for me it would be. They just require this 1 thing that I do not have, and I have to get a pcp to do it. I have already been to the Seminar, and had my intake appt, Lisa has scheduled my sleep study and my psych eval for November, I just really need to get on the stick with the diet part. I actually had a doctor in mind, and when I called unfortunately she is not taking any new patients at this time, so I was out of luck. I just don't want to get stuck wasting time with either a doc that does not approve or a doc that is not fat-friendly.
If your willing to come over to BA, I highly recommend my PCP, Dr Bryan Dalton. He is very caring and has never treated me bad for my weight. He even diagnosed my sleep apnea, which I had no clue I had. His ofc staff is great too, all very caring people. His ofc is off Elm Place (161st St) next to the old ST Francis of BA hosp. Family Medicine Associates. 3100 S Elm Pl, Ste A. 918-455-7777. They are actually open 7 days a week: 8-8, M-F, 9-3 on Sat and 1-5 on Sunday. Of couse, the weekend hours are for minor emergency. They have their own in-house xray and lab.
Otherwise, the only other PCP I've had prior to moving to BA was Dr Christie Mayfield in S Tulsa. She was also very nice and in the physician's bldg at Southcrest. You may have to check if she is taking new patients. She is family practice, also. Sorry, don't have her ph# anymore.
