Thursday...

Let's see, what can we talk about today? It's Thursday and it's a wonderful day.  And, tomorrow is the first day of Affair of the Heart - YEAH!!! I'm watching GMA this morning (it seems like I'm always watching it) and they are showing offices (actual business offices) where your desk is set up at a treadmill.  I myself would find it hard to walk and work (even thought he treadmill is going slow).  But, I wonder if people would be in favor of having such an office workstation or if it would be useful at all. So, given the opportunity (and just we're just pretending here that everyone has an office job) would you like a workstation where you stand at a slow moving treadmill to work - or is that going to far?  I also wonder if it would make you any more productive at your job or if it would be a distraction.  I also wonder how many miles a person would get in during the work week. Sounds distracting to me! Years ago, I saw this pedal type thing that goes under the desk that you pedal while working at your desk.  I'm thinking that it was for home and it was actually hooked up to the power of your computer where your monitor would turn off unless you were pedaling!  lol I also saw, years ago, a mother who wanted her kids to get more exercise, so she hooked up the television to a stationary bike and her kids had to pedal to keep the TV on. I think those two things are more practical (of course if you are addicted to computer time and television like I am!)

I've actually thought about getting one of those pedal things to keep under the computer. Today I am having a "slow" day-just really relaxed and doing whatever-no pressure.  I woke up feeling like that and I am going to sustain it as long as I can.  Tonight we have our second Doggy Class so I need to get Priss bathed sometime today-but that isn't a terrible big deal.

I would not like the treadmill thing, it would distract me from my work, but then I have a hard time focusing anyway.  My Mom has a thing u put in front of a chair and pedal it but it doesnt hook up to anything its just manual. she got it when she started having trouble with her knees and it hurt to bad to walk but she can do that for a few  minutes at a time. works great for her.

I DO have an office job, and think it would be nearly impossible for me to stand up for 8 hours...let alone walk on a treadmill for eight hours.  I think this is almost unhealthy. Did GMA really endorse this kind of exercise?  That just seems brutal. I'd love to have one of those pedal things.  Where do you find them? Cathy

You can find several versions of the pedal things in Dr. Leonards or Carol Wrights-maybe even at Academy sports.  They range in price from like 20 bucks to 200 depending on the features.

Seems like the company would be setting themselves up for more worker comp claims from falls caused by the treadmills.   I know I could not type and walk at the same time with any accuracy and I would get winded trying to talk on the phone all day and walk at the same time. Very strange idea to say the least.

Well the initial thought of getting "paid" to exercise sounds appealing - I'd have to say NO to the idea.  I think that it would be a distraction. But I'm also thinking of the long term possibilities. So, lets say they start monitoring how much you use it, and you don't use it as much as so and so, there for you're not as "healthy" and a greater risk for insurance claims.... who will get the promotion you or healthy so and so???  I think that offering a work out room that you can utilize on breaks, lunch, or before/after work is a GREAT idea!!!!  JMO

Yeah, I think I would probably get fired - I could do one or the other, but not work and work out. I thought it was a funny concept, but would they be discriminating against people who couldn't do it? HHHMMMM T

At my last job, they paid for a fitness facility for us.  We had our choice of where to go (but there was a maximum monthly amount) and they reimbursed us for it if we used it a minimum of 8 times a month.
