It's Wednesday...Posiive Thinking...

Okay, the holidays are fast approaching.  My daughters and I are trying  to think of something to do for others for the holidays.  I would love to give away stuffed animals at the nursing home.  I think that would be a really good start for my daughters and I. But, I would also like to help those that are 'really' in need.  I've not decided what I will do yet, but I don't want to not do something. What do you generally do to help others - any time of year? tonja

no matter how tight money is for us my kids each take an angel from the angel tree and we go as a family to buy gifts for our angels. We get clothes and toys. We always have a great time doing it and it makes us all feel good to know someone is getting something for christmas that might have done without.

My kids and I do the same thing Sherrie does.  Angels from the Salvation Army tree. Cathy

Oh good grief, without a "real job" I won't have an angel tree this year-I usually pick several kids from our company list and buy presents for them.  I loved thinking about what a 7 year old boy would like (dinosaur and shark books, etc) that might help him later on. I always visit with everyone at the assisted living center when I go see Uncle John, but a couple of times I've brought a big old cake at lunchtime and sliced it up for people.   Another holiday activity is singing carols with the old folks-they really enjoy that, and they enjoy young faces.  Taking a pet up to visit any nursing home/assisted living center is always a big hit. I'm going to have to give serious thought to what I want to do this year.  I'd like to do something for soldiers or dogs..LOL.

We usually do the angel tree thing too.  We started it when Serena was really young, like 2 or 3.  I always got a girl that was about her age (not only easy for me to know sizes and what they like, but I could talk to her about the other little girl her age that we were helping) Then, when Miranda came along, I got two girls who were my two girls ages. The past couple of years, when I was working, one year we adopted a family who had recently unexpectedly lost their mom and one year we adopted some nursing home residents who didn't have family and bought for them (all of us co workers went together on these) I don't know what I"m going to do this year.  I don't know if I'm going to be able to afford much or not with me not working anymore I did find out though, through a friend that here in B'ville, what you get your angel isn't exactly what they get.  They set it all out like a store and the parents "shop" for their kids.  That way, they get what they think their kids like, sizes, colors, etc...  For each "angel" they are allowed to get one big toy, two small toys, and one complete outfit (shoes, socks, undies, shirt, pants), and one box of food. I'm not sure how they do other things that are donated that don't fit into those categories.  AND, this was like 8 years ago, so things may have changed.
