Hi all!!! I am new here. I just moved to Oklahoma. I am thinking about having RNY. I had a baby in 2006. At the time of delivery I weighed 187. That was June 2006. Now over a year later I have shot up to 220. I am only 5' 4". They say that my BMI is 37.7. I was wondering if anyone has been able to get TRICARE Prime to cover their surgery and with whom? Any help is great.

Welcome to the board. Tricare usually covers surgery. DO a search of surgeons in the area and call to find the ones who take Tricare. Go to your PCP and ask for a referal. Also I know there a re a few military spouses who are in Lawton who have had surgery. Talk to them.

Hi Welcome to OK. I live in Lawton and had RNY. At the time I had work  insurance and Tricare Tricare pays if you have a referral. I had sugery over 4 years ago so things have changed. I know most people go to Dr. Warnock in Witchta Falls. He is a great Dr. There are support meetings in Lawton and the falls. Lawton just had one last Sat. Start with you PCP and get your ref to Him so you can start the process and read read and read some more before you make your decision. Debra

Welcome to OK and to our little group!!  You are about the same size as I am.  I'm also pre-op.  Sorry I don't know anything about TriCare.   I hate insurance today.  I'm having a bad insurance day.  Some days I feel confident I will get approved and some days (like today) I get kinda freaked out about it.  I'm so new into the process though that I don't even know what is required of me by my insurance.  They won't hardly tell me anything over the phone :o( I still have another informational meeting to go to before I get the REAL ball rolling and find out the info I need to know. I'm 5'3" and about 220.  I think my BMI is 38.6.  The way my insurance booklet reads, it sounds much easier to get approved if I have a BMI of 40...  so, I'm not doing anything at the moment to try to lose any weight.  In fact, "mental" days like today (that's what I call my down days) are enough to make me gain a few pounds in the course of a 24 hour period!  lol Really, I'm not crazy though. Welcome to the group and keep us posted on your progress... Don't mind me being in my "down mood" today :o)

I have tricare prime.  You have to be 100 pounds overweight or have a bmi of 45 with at least one co-morbidity.  a pcp has to write you a referal but once he or she does your pretty much approved.  I met dr warnock in wichita falls for my initial consult on 10-16 and got my approval on 10-25.  My surgery is schedualed for nov. 30!!!yay!!!  tricare does nor require any  pre-op tsting.  good luck to you
