Does anyone know what the topic for November's Surgical Associates Support Group Meeting will be for November and/or December? I heard that they have topics each month and expect the people to know enough about it for discussion.  Is that true?  Do you have to participate or can you be a wallflower? I'm hoping I can go to the one in November and would like to know the topic if possible. TIA Dot*

Have you had surgery yet? Surgical Associates is who I am going to use, and I am a pre op.  I need to go to one of thier support group meetings as it is required pre op.  Emily

I went to the support group meeting for surgical associates last month and it was great. We each stood and told our name and where in the process we were. And we were able to ask questions and get answers from others that have been where we are now. I dont recall any topic being mentioned. But I may have just not heard it,  but to me it seemed more like a bunch of friends helping each other cope with the questions. It was great! Looking forward to seeing you all there in the months to come.

The topic last month was "What plans have you made for this fall?"  In November it'll probably be something about Thanksgiving.  I think Tracy just comes up with a topic off the top of her head.  You don't have to say anything about the topic---I didn't.  It's not a big deal.

Thanks for your responses... Emily, I'm pre-op and haven't even gone to the informational meeting yet.  I am scheduled to go November 5 and hope to go to the following support meeting the second week of November. I met someone at Gorospe's informational meeting and we exchanged numbers and have talked.  She didn't know anyone else did the surgery in the Tulsa area except for Gorospe, so she was glad to hear that she could check into someone else.  She cannot get into the November informational meeting because it is "full", but I can bring ONE support person with me and I think she might go with me.  Right now, she is scheduled to go to the December informational meeting, but has a business trip so she might have to reschedule for the January one. Sandie & Pamela, do they sometimes have guest speakers?  I'm glad they don't have topics to research and discuss the way I understood that it was...  I don't like being put on the spot!  lol

One meeting I went to had a plastic surgeon speak and he had a slide show and a guy fainted!!!  I think we still had to get up and introduce ourselves at that meeting.  Tracy writes down how much weight everybody has lost and announces the total.  I think they've had other speakers but I don't remember them.

I remember when the fella passed out at the meeting.  I think it was Christy's husband!  I thought that was pretty funny.  I'm sure he didn't!  I haven't been to a support group meeting in quite a while.  I'm thinking about trying the one for those 6 months out and more.

It doesn't surprise me at all.  It is often-times the men who can't handle blood or needles, or the like :o)
