A vent sorry
I went to the seminar today with Dr. Keith. I have been in contact with his insurance rep in advance. Today she gave me the bad news. For the last yr in VA I had another insurance company. I went through the entire process and was weeks away from surgery when I moved to OK (job related couldn't wait). My new insurance will not accept anything I have done previously. And they require a 6 month monitoring with my PCP. AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
My PCP (whom I have seen once) does not agree with WLS. He is not going to help me fulfill the requirement. I can't change until open enrollment in Jan. I am so frustrated. I don't mind doing it again (well I do but I am more than willing) but this is too much to deal with. I am gonna start fresh tomorrow making calls and trying to figure out a solution. Any advice?

If self pay/financing is an option, I'd do it. I got terribly jaded so I am not the best resource, except that doing it myself made it mean this was MY surgery, MY life and somehow it empowered me more than I thought it would. And, I'm documenting my problems and my improvements so I can file a lawsuit against the insurance company when I' done. LOL. I won't keep any proceeds, I just want to make my point. If I can think of a more constructive way to do so, I will, but right now the idea keeps me amused.
I'm sorry I didn't start out with "I'm sorry for your bad news...." that is terrible news, it sucks and I have been there more than once.
You can't change doctors until open enrollment? I thought open enrollment was to change insurance carriers or insurance plans... Never heard of having to wait to change doctors!!
I also think it is pretty stupid that they wouldn't take any of the prior testing/dieting that you've had in the past. That is just crazy! You PAID for those things to be done, you are still the same person! Your records should be transferrable from one doc to another with no questions asked and insurance should recognize them (as long as they were done within a reasonable amount of time ago)... Sounds like they are giving you the run-around
I don't know what to say... I'm sorry to hear this
Another question: Can you not Cobra out on your previous insurance? I know that you can keep prior insurance for about 6 months when you change jobs with some employers. It's worth a shot.
Also, as someone else mentioned, private pay may be the way to go. I don' t know about Dr. Keith's office, but my doctor's office has medical loans you can get to help finance your surgery. That's what I did because Cigna wouldn't pay a dime for the surgery, but would pay for bloodwork, etc.
