Monday Question

Since Tonja is under the weather,  I thought I'd ask a question today.  Nothing too deep-it's Monday. Do you have pets and are they indoor/outdoor or both?  Do you take your pets with you on trips, or do activities with them? I have 5 dogs who only go out to bark at the squirrels, chase frisbees and potty.  Prissy is enrolled in an obedience class (heaven help us all) and Greta likes to run errands with me.  The rest go down the street to visit my parents. I have a cat who supervises the place and 20ish snakes-I haven't counted in awhile.  Snakes mostly like to hang out and take a mini vacation in the bathtub sometimes.

I have a 9 year old chih-woodle (chihuahua/poodle mix) named Gizmo.  He is indoor/outdoor.  I rescued him from a trailer park (a friend of my brother's).  They were going to take him to the pound and I didn't think he would be "adoptable" because he needed surgery on his eye.  I took him in, he wasn't much bigger than a beanie baby, got him the eye surgery he needed (dermoid cyst with hair growing out of it on conjunctiva of left eye) got him neutered and I've had him since.  He is a REAL TRUE buddy of Miranda who was born 4 months after I got him. I have a 4-5 year old cat (can't remember how old) she is also from the pound.  She looks like a Mainecoon and is named Tikal (Ty - cal) She is moody as heck!!  When she is in one of her moods, you can't even walk past her without her hissing at you!  She is NOT playful at all and is only a lap cat when SHE wants to be!  Otherwise, you better leave her ALONE!  But, when she is in a lovey mood, she won't leave you alone until you scratch her head/neck/back.  Then she starts doing the kitten paw kneading and slobbering! We also have a cat that is just over a year old.  She is solid black and named Shadow.  Her mom was a stray.  I worked in a medical office that was behind a couple restaurants, so there were lots of dumpster diving cats that hung around there.  This cat had her kittens under a bush at our office and we found them and started bringing food to work for the mommy and watching the kittens grow and before the kitten was old enough to get wild and run away, I took her home and started bottle feeding her.  She's so lovey, playful, and friskey.  For awhile I think she thought I was her mom!  She ONLY drinks out of the lightly running faucet in the bathroom! I don't really take my animals anywhere except to the vet.  The dog goes on walks sometimes, otherwise, he has a nice big back yard to play in and he runs around back there with Miranda.  He likes to "play ball."  If we go out of town for any longer than a couple days (weekend) we put the animals up at a boarding kennel. Long enough?  lol

We have two dogs, Mulligan and Buddy.  We got Mulligan about four years ago from the SPCA.  He's mostly beagle, all red and white except for a tiny bit of black between the red and white on his tail.  We got Buddy about a year ago.  My boss found him at ORU.  She put an ad in the paper and put up signs around the neighborhood but nobody claimed him.  She took me over to her house to see him and he was so friendly I couldn't resist him.  Mulligan loves other dogs and we kept saying "Mulligan needs a buddy" so we had to name him Buddy.  Buddy is a very smart dog, Mulligan not so much.  Buddy is very laid back, hardly ever barks and Mulligan barks enough for two dogs.  Mulligan is kind of hyper and a little ornery sometimes but a very sweet dog.  Buddy is very lovable---he thinks he's a lap dog even though he weighs 50 lbs.  He's gained about 20 lbs. since we got him.  We cut back on his food and don't give them table scraps very often, but he doesn't lose any weight.  Mulligan has always been slim and trim and both dogs have the same access to food---why is one fat and the other one slim?  I guess Mulligan burns off the calories---he's a lot more active---he's always pestering Buddy to play with him and usually Buddy will run and play for a little while.  They sleep in the house, on the sofa or love seat or on a big dog pillow.  If it's nice out, they go outside while we're at work.  If it's raining they don't like to go outside, or if it's really cold or really hot we leave them inside.  Sometimes Buddy goes in the laundry room and makes a puddle or poo-poo but I'm glad he doesn't go on the carpet.  Mulligan never goes in the house---somebody trained him good.  There's a picture of them on my profile.  My hubby walks them a lot and everybody always says what a good looking dog Mulligan is.  Buddy is good looking too, but Mulligan has really pretty markings.

Okay - I feel half dead, but couldn't keep myself off the board. We have a ShihTzu named Gege.  She is a brat.  Of course, we researched ShihTzu's before we got her so we knew what we were going to be in for.  She is mostly white with some red blotches on her.  At one time I had my hair colored the same as hers.  She is very feminine looking.  We always know when weather is moving in because she starts crying. When we do go out of town, we do board her at the doggie spa.  She loves it there.  She is crazy about all the ladies that work there.  It really helps that she likes going. Gege also thinks she is a cat.  She acts just like a cat, but doesn't really get moody.  She is our baby! Tonja

You can see pictures of my furry kids on www.poidogz.blogspot.com   It's about rescue, life with dogs and anything else animal related I want to write about. I'm going to have to build an indoor (on the sunporch) potty station soon because Bitty, my latest and oldest dog, isn't going to be able to survive the cooler weather.  She's pretty frail and I just want her last days to be good ones, as comfie as possible. Sometimes life throws us curve balls-even when we are little dogs.  Bitty's "mom" died a few years ago and the new wife didn't get along with the 11 year old dog.  So, on the way back from my first fill, I stopped off in Dallas and now I have a new friend. Bitty will always be a timid little thing, but she's happy.  She doesn't sit around mournfully, she goes out with the younger dogs and warms her old bones in the sun, and when it's too cool she come in and finds a nice place to curl up.   Each one of my dogs is special, and they all teach me a little bit every day.

I am a stay at home mother of 3, who also takes care of our 5 dogs, 2 cats and 9 hermit crabs.   About 3 years ago we moved further out on the edge of town, (some would call it the sticks), and since that time we have inherited 2 chocolate labs.  We've had them about 2 1/2 years and they are huge huge huge!  I love them though and they definitely keep me busy.  Their names are Candy & Sugar.  We also have a silver chow  whose name is Bear, a black lab mix (she was a stray as well), named Fluffy  and no...she isn't fluffy at all...lol.  Last but not least of the dogs is my Pekignese and his name i*****in.  He's the smallest as well as the oldest.   About 8 years ago, we lovingly adopted 2 stray kittens who are sisters and their names are Cheyenne and Dakota.  Both of them truly love my husband the best, they only tolerate me because I'm the one that feeds them.   Our animals are like our children, and I can't imagine life without them all....they keep me busy and make me laugh. Have a great day everyone! Karen
