Hi all A while back I wrote asking for help in finding my  friend a dress for her homecoming. We found her a dress and she got shoes and everything. She was looking forward to going with a boy who is her only friend at school. He is gay. She was gong to take care of everything the tickets and was going to get him some clothes to wear because he comes from a very poor family. He say he can't go now. The other person she was going with was a girl on are street who is a junior and she knew how important this was to my friend and at the last minute agreed to go with a boy saying my friend could still go with them.  Her mom said she would fill like a fifth wheel so as of now she is not going. She cried last night wanting to know what is wrong with her because she has no friends. She is the most wonderful person. I take her everywhere with me and we have a great time. but she need friends her age. Her mom is holding her back from having the surgery. Please keep her in your prayers. Debbie

Debbie, I would encourage her to go.  Often times, school events are more fun with a crowd anyway.  Once she gets there, she may find other guys who have gone 'stag' and are looking for a dance partner. How old is your friend?  Many surgeons won't perform WLS on patients under 18.  And, once she's over 18, I don't think she will need her mom's consent anymore. Good luck! Cathy

That is horrible that people would treat her that way. Last year for prom my daughters friend told her not to accept any dates that they would go together. at the last minute the girl accepted a date with a guy that had earlier asked my daughter to go with him and she had said no so that she could go with her friend. My daughter was upset and didnt want to go but i insisted since i had spent so much on a dress. she ended up going with another friend and his date. they all had a blast. she came home and said she was so glad she went.. oh and the other girl that took the last minute date, got dumped at the prom. he left without her... feel free to share this story with your friend.. tell her not to let other people cause her to miss something she will regret missing.

My favorite time at Prom was when I went stag.  That way you don't have to entertain anyone buy yourself. As far as friends - they are a dime a dozen at that age.  She needs to find an after school activity that she can join in on that is away from school and not a school function. As far as surgery goes - is she 18 yet?  Once she is 18 - it's her decision - not mom's. If I were there - I'd go with her - and we would have a crazy fun time!  I'd show her how exciting life can really be when you are independent.  I wish more kids would learn this at a young age. She is in my prayers!!! Tonja

Thanks for all your feedback. I was going to ask her if she would go by herself today. Her mom may not want her to. We will be going to okc tomorrow for an appointment and I will be able to get some time with her. She is 18 as of Aug and I have told her she can make her Dr. appt herself. She takes about 10 pills a day for different reasons. Her mom did take her last week to Ft sill and the Dr gaave her diet pills. I don't think she has taken them yet. He also said he would give her a referral for surgery. Have to go take my son to work. Thanks all Debbie
