My stupid 'other' surgery

Okay, so check this out... My surgery is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.  I'm told nothing to eat/drink after midnight by the nurse scheduler.  I tell her that I think she's mistaken, as it's an afternoon surgery and I think I can have a light breakfast and small drink up until 8:00 a.m.  She threatens to cancel my surgery if I eat breakfast and drink after midnight.  I call the surgery center and tell me that it's irrational for me to not eat/drink after midnight and that I can have a small breakfast and drin****il 7:00 a.m.   I compromised and drank a glass of water at 6:45 and was compliant after that.  I wasn't going to risk having dehydrated veins when they're trying to put in an IV because the person who scheduled my surgery wasn't willing to put a little more thought in her answer.  Fortunately, because I've been craving all this salty processed meat crap lately, I've been retaining water, so when they put in the IV, it was super easy.  HA HA HA HA HA   I tell everyone beforehand that I drank at 6:45.  I figured I'd be honest.  Everyone was happy with that.  Go figure. Doc comes in prior to surgery to ask if I have questions.  I ask a few, of which she answers.  I ask if I can go to the wildlife expo this weekend and she says "yes...you're going to be in so little pain when this is over, due to the nature of the procedure.  You can resume normal activities immediately.   YEA!  I remember learning that one of my OR nurse's husbands works with me at my job.  I tell her how much I like him and then I'm out.  Hope I didn't say anything inappropriate after then, as I'm known for rambling funny things when I'm under anesthesia.  I wake up in the recovery room to hear my surgeon telling my husband that what they "thought" they were going in for, wasn't what it was.  HUH!?!  So, they treated something else (which was related) and referred me back to my gastroenterologist to fix the rest of the "mess" that she says was related to Crohn's that was going on.   So, now I have to take four baths a day to "soak" and on Monday, I have to call my GI doc to tell him what the surgeon found and then schedule another appt with this surgeon.  My problem is...I have NO idea what the surgeon found.  I don't know what she fixed.  She explained to my hubby and he tried to explain to me, but I didn't understand (and still don't).  So much gets lost in translation, you know?  So, I feel great, but was told that I have to "rest" this weekend.  I want to go to the expo, but don't really know if I'm restricted.   It's a Saturday now, and I don't have any clarification about anything...and on top of that, I may have to have another surgery in two weeks (which she hinted at when we were addressing my questions prior to surgery).  So, back to my original statement... stupid stupid crohn's disease. stupid stupid crohn's disease On a funny note...I was given a cup to pee in before surgery to check for pregnancy.  I couldn't pee, of course, as I'd not had anything to drink since 6:45 and that was a small cup of water.  I was told they were going to hook me up to IV fluids until I was willing to pee for them because they needed to make sure I wasn't pregnant.  I stated "now listen...I had surgery 3 weeks ago, and was tested for pregnancy at that time.  I've not had sex since that surgery, so I'm quite certain we're okay here".  The surgeon looked at my husband and said "is that true?"  He shyly nodded "yes".   So, they didn't make me wait...or pee...before they started the surgery.   Have a great weekend, friends...I'll have more information on Monday when I talk to my doctors. So, um, your not pregnant? Glad that you are back in action here. We're getting ready to go to the Wildlife Expo.  I'd say - go - just take it easy.  You know your limits. I hope I see you there! Tonja

I'm sorry you are having such a rough time.  Good gosh, when you can't pee, well, you CAN'T, not WON'T. I'm sure things seem a little out of control right now and I hope they get better soon.
