still having nausea

I'm not sure what happened to me to make me have such severe nausea.  And, strangly, it's on & off.  I'll be fine one minute and then totally sick the next...with nothing to bring it on.  The Upper GI determined this wasn't band-related, so I don't know. I'm not eating hardly at all.  I drink plenty of water.  The one thing I crave...and it's horrible for me...is salty processed meat...like vienna sausages, bologna, braunschweiger, etc.  It's my only source of protein now, as the protein drinks make me heave.  I don't eat a lot...just a couple small pieces a day and it seems to satisfy the nausea. I'm not running a fever and don't seem to have any other symptoms of a stomach bug.  I took phenergan the first two days I had this, but it knocked me out (worse than lortab) and I can't be productive if I'm sleeping all day. I dread going to work tomorrow, as I've not been able to work a full day since my surgery and I fear my boss is getting tired of it. Anyway, I'm just rambling at this point.  So, I'm going to lie down and hope it goes away very very soon.

Cathy, just a guess but I was wondering if the processed, salty meat might have a lot of fat content and maybe that is what is making you feel nauseated.  I'm looking at having the lap band after the first of the year when I change insurance companies.  I have attended two seminars - one with Dr. Gornichec and one at Weight Wise in Edmond.  Do you have any thoughts about either one.  What insurance company did you use and did you have any problems with them paying?  Would love to pick you brain about this surgery if you feel like it.  Please email me at [email protected]  Thank you.

The cravings didn't happen until after I had the nausea...and surprisingly, it's the only thing that I'm able to eat without the strong urge to heave or vomit. Both Dr. Gornichec & Weightwise are great facilities.  I have friends who work at WW, although I've not met their doctors to have an opinion about them.  I have a great deal of respect for Dr. Gornichec.  WW did not accept my insurance, while Dr. Gornichec did.  If both had accepted, I would've interviewed both docs prior to my choosing.  However, this wasn't the case, as I knew I wasn't going to be self pay, so I went with the doc that my insurance would work with. Good luck to you. Cathy

Cathy, Do you know how many ounces of water you are getting in?  If you are having any swelling in there - that could be causing it.  And, there is just the chance that your esophagus is just pouting and it's making you nauseated.  I can only take 1/4 of a tablet on the phenergan - otherwise I'm out. Also, you might try warm liquids and see how that helps.  I've had to really slow down my swallowing of liquids since this last fill.  It took a few days for that to hit, but it hit. As far as the salty type meats, they can make your blood pressure go up.  Be careful! I sure hope you feel better soon! Tonja

Thank you, Tonja. Fortunately, I've never had blood pressure problems, so I'm not too worried about it elevating.  Mine has always been really good. Today has been a better day...a little nausea after a drive home from Stillwater, but had some soft crackers and spreadable cheese and that felt better.   Water is constantly going down...I feel parched when I don't drink it (I think that's due to an antibiotic I'm on).  I've called the pharmacy to see if the antibiotic could cause nausea and they said "no".  I'm not really sure I believe that, as this has been going on since the day I started taking them.
