Far --- OT homeschooling ???'s
I am interested in any knowledge someone may have about homeschooling in Oklahoma.
I want to home school one of my sons. I have no clues as to what I need to do to get into homeschooling.
There has been a incident that causes me to fear for my sons safety at the school he attends and I want him out of the school as soon as possible if it is possible.
If you have information on how to get into home schooling please private message me.
Thank You, Dedee
Hi Sandy,
My boys both attend MHS. My youngest son spent the night with my sister in town ( I live out at Gooseneck Bend) and my son and nephew went to the homecoming game and walked back to my sisters house after the game. I didn't even know they went to the game much less walked!! They were 1 block from her house when my son was jumped by about 20 boys for " being in there Hood" on there street. My son was kicked and punched repeatedly by all these boys. Most of them at the same time. My son said he just curled up trying to protect his face and stomach while they beat him. He also told me when they all stoped one of the boys said wait I didnt get mine in yet. Then he started back in on my son. My nephew was so scared he ran leaving my son alone to be beaten. I was at home and my son called freaking out breathing hard and crying saying please come get me I got jumped. I drove to town in seconds and when I arrived my son had no shoes on and was covered in blood.
We drove down the block and found my sons shoes one at one corner and the other at the other end of the block. He was so scared after they beat him he ran completely out of his shoes. The crowd that beat my son was all just hanging out by there house. I slowed down to get the address and they started raising there arms saying " what what". We went to the police station and filed a report. The officer had us follow him to the house and they lined only 4 of about 20 boys up and my son positively identified 2 boys. Those boys went to juvey and for $25 there parents could get them out and thats it! They didnt line up the whole crowd for some reason. Then I was told to leave. Since there all juviniles and my son wasn't killed theres not much that will be done is what the cop said. My son knows some of the boys because they are in his grade and go to MHS. They have classes and lunch with him. My son is terrified to go back to school. I am keeping him home in the morning and I will be going to the police station and getting a police report to take to the school. The high school does very little to protect kids.
These boys were not white. My son was not in a supposedly bad part of town. I have never heard of a "hood" on the Eastside of town. I don't understand why these people would get a thrill out of beating a boy for walking on "there block" . I never considered myself racist and I am struggling with my morals and beliefs. I am having nightmares and bad thoughts. My son is the same way. I don't know how to console him or make him not hate a certain race because of all of this. I am at a loss.
I will be taking my son to the pediatrician tomorrow. His ribs, shoulder and wrist and nose all hurt and he needs to be checked out. I think we need someone to talk to about all this also.
Wow I don't know why I spilled the beans.

DeDee,
Wow! I can't even imagine how I would feel after that! I have heard that there were gangs in Muskogee and stuff. I would definately see the people at the school and then move him outta there!! Can you move him to Hildale? Do they even have a high school? That is so scarey! Depending on how bad he is affected, you may want to get him some counseling.....
My thoughts and prayers are with your family, keep me posted on this.
Sandy
I am so sorry to hear that your son went through all that. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. I think your making the right choice in homeschooling him for now. The school has a responsiblity to protect him but its not likely to happen. I hate saying that but it is true. Most likely the teachers and ect are just as scared of those bullies as your son is. I homeschooled my kids for part of a year and its a hard job but sometimes nessasary. In this situation the school may provide you with all the stuff you need to homeschool possibly even a tutor. you just have to be persistant! Good luck and god bless
Thank you all for understanding and caring.
I went to the police station this morning and got a copy of the report. I took it to the( B.O.E.) Board of Education and explained everything there. I was then sent to the High School to see the principal over the whole school. There are like 5 principals there one for each grade and then the main principal. Pemberton from Hilldale is now at MHS.
Anyways, The principal was at first saying the school has plenty of security and was wanting to know why I felt the school wouldn't be able to protect my son. He didn't feel like my son needed to be transfered to another school or placed in online schooling. Then he wanted to know if my son knew these boys and I told him no but he knew some of there names just by there reputations on campus . I showed him him a list of names and when he seen who's names were on the list his whole attitude changed. Turns out one of the boys we had arrested is one of the worst kids in school and the others are about as bad. There are basically 3 gangs in Muskogee and one of these boys runs with all 3 gangs.
The principal changed his whole view of being able to protect my son and suggested placing my son in the online school program for as long as we would like for him to be on it. He personally called the B.O. E. and told them to place my son in the program tomorrow. So I meet with them at 10am. The great thing about online is my son can return to public school anytime and be on grade level. He can attend all functions at school if he so desires like the prom and if he wants to go to Vo-Tech he can. He also will graduate with his class if he is still doing the online schooling when he is a senior. He is still considered a public school student.
Sounds great to me.
I still have my oldest son at MHS. I told the principal that my son was instructed not to discuss the event of Friday at school to any of his friends because even friends talk and it wouldn't be long and the boys who jumped my son would possible give my oldest son problems. I felt like the principal needed to know that. He was very understanding. I hope my oldest wont have to deal with any of this. Those boys don't know my sons are related ( I dont think anyways) so I will keep my fingers crossed. My oldest went to school today and all he heard was some boys discussing wipping someones arss. He didn't know who they were talking about for sure but it was near the 9th grade hall so he figure it could have been about his brother. My oldest takes some advanced computer courses so I don't want to take him out of the high school unless it becomes neccesary.
I took my son to the pediatrician after all this and we go for xrays of his shoulder in the morning. Everything else looked ok. Just some bruises.
I am still struggling with all this. I know that with time I will be ok. I didn't have any nightmares last night. Today went well and tomorrow will be even better I hope. Before long I hope this will all be behind us providing my oldest son doesn't encounter any issues with this group of kids because of all this mess.
Thanks again for letting me vent and understanding my grief. Thanks for your prayers.

Dedee - I'm so glad that you had a principal that was willing to assist you and your son!!! How awesome that he can do an online school and still re-enter the classroom when he wants (if he wants) that is excellent. Of course there's the whole issue about he shouldn't HAVE to be in this situation in the first place but that's another post.
I hope your xrays turned out to be nothing but bruises and he gets to feeling better real soon!!!
