Ok ladies-this pre-op liquid diet is literally driving me insane and I am only on my third day!! Does anyone have any suggestions on how to spice it up without cheating??

I strain a lot of Campbell's cream soups to add variety.  They make an awesome cream of mushroom w/roasted garlic or cream of chicken and herbs.  I also like their brocolli cheddar soup.  Just remember to strain out all the chunks.  If you like beans (which I don't), you could also blend a lentil soup or a green pea soup (this also helps with protein).  I hear some people jazz these up with soy sauce, tobasco, or stuff like that. How are you getting in your protein?  If you don't like the shakes, you can get bottles of ISOPURE zero carb drinks from GNC.  They're $4/bottle, but carry a hefty 40 grams of protein and taste like kool-aid.  The green one is the best (in my opinion), but there are about 6-7 flavors. Sugar-free fudgsicles are great when you need something sweet, as are the SF pudding or jello cups.  I'm not going to sugar-coat things, dear, it's a long journey, but it will be over soon...and the prize is SOOOO worth it.  Hang in there. Thank you ladies for your suggestions. I will definately take them into consideration. I am actually getting a lot of protein in. About a year ago, when I did Body For Life, I quickly got used to consuming protein shakes. Thankfully, I am used to them and they don't bother me at all. Right now, I am using myoplex lite and syntrax nectar. This is why I love this webstie!! You can always get good information from experienced people. I didn't make the Starbuck's meeting becasue I try to sleep when I am not eating so I won't get hungry! I would come to the support group meeting Tuesday, but I have to work Tuesday night. If I can get a spare moment, I might try to come and sit in for a few minutes since I work at Baptist.

God Bless you all and have a good day.

Welcome to my world! I have been doing them since july 19! Ido protein meal replacements and believe me it does get easier just hang in there! For me I made a huge pot of stew and pureed it. I have gone and egg drop soup for a 1.00 a pint I couldn't go wrong. Plus I use simple products....no cheap canned soups either the flavor just isn't there for me. I  do protein shakes and add stuff like fruit and pumpkind and spices. This morning I am drinking a egg nog type shake...minus the eggs. I take vanilla soy milk and vanilla protein powder mix together and add some spice to it. Yesterday my big kick was watermelon....I amke sure I get my protein in and my water.Plus I suck on s/f popsicles and fudge sciles and of course s/s jello and s/f pudding. YOU CAN DO THIS! Just relax and let your imagination run wild! Hugs to you! Pattye

Pacific Rim (sold at health food stores but not GNC) makes the best soups-corn soup, squash soup, etc that are in single serving cartons.  I was soooooooo wanting one on the way back from Houston last week.  They are organic and you could probably spice them up but I love em just out of the carton. I spied a tasty looking bean bisque soup but I think I'd rather just blend up some black beans and broth and save a dollar or two. Even clear liquids like broth can benefit from a shot of chili sauce or some chili powder-but be very easy on spicing when you are on liquid diet.

The main thing is to make sure you keep your carbs up.  What is listed on the 10 day pre-op diet sheet is the minimum.  If you don't keep them up, you will be miserable - you will feel mean and won't be able to think clearly. Any chance you will be coming to the Tuesday support group meeting or tonight to Starbucks? Tonja
