One of my hobbies, is dessert making. I love to make all kinds of candies and pastries, pies and cakes not to mention cookies.  Since I decide to have WLS, I quit making any thing like that. Threw out all the ingredients for it and said bye bye to the bad carbs.  This morning, while sipping my breakfast (awh the lovely protein shake pumpkin smoothie) I received a phone call asking me to make my "famous"  strawberry punchbowl cake. My heart skipped a beat. As a carbaloic this is going to be torture for me. These cakes are filled with all the high carbs possible; from condensed milk, sour cream, whipped topping, cake, strawberries in a glaze...need I say more.

I know the feeling - I have been a cake decorator for the last several years - wedding cakes, birthday cakes, etc.  I did a wedding cake about 6 weeks after RNY and it KILLED me when I realized I couldn't lick my fingers!!  I continue to do them when I feel like it, thankfully it isn't a full time business - mostly for friends and family. I do charge for the big ones, but I think I have only done a few since RNY last year.  But I certainly understand what you are going through! Pick and choose what you do and if you cannot avoid be tempted, the word NO is certainly not a guilty pleasure!  You have to make sure you do what you need to do to be successful.  Maybe you could offer to show the person requesting how to make it themselves and that way you have an out for later!  And someone to "watch" over you to make sure your fingers are true to your pouch!! Good Luck!! Ruth

Cathy just for you will share this..... I use can pumkin, run it thru the blender add pumpkin pie spice and splenda then protein powder  and fat free or soy milk. The vanilla powder makes it the BOMB diggity! When I thought of this I had to experiment with how much pumkin etc so do it your taste. I make a big batch of it and then put it in freezerable screw top containers. And then when I want one take it out and wait for about 30 minutes and enjoy. I also do a orange julius using s/f orange jello and some s/f flavored drink mix..... I may not be able to eat like I use to do but bt golly I am not going to miss out on pumpkin pie minus the crust.... I do have receipes for cranberry sauce that are sugar free, sweet potaot pie any thing that can be made sugar free I got a receipe...hehe even fudge

If you don't care for the taste of pumpkin you can omit the pie spice and just add around a quarter of a can of pumpkin with lots of chocolote etc.  Pumpkin thickens the smoothie without adding many calories and lots of fiber and vitamins.  The lovely pumpkin can also be used to make a low fat chocolate muffin-one can of pumpkin, one box chocolate cake-and nothing else.  I don't understand how it works, but it does. Let's all take a moment to give thanks to such a generous and under rated veggie!
